Contract - VMware Professional Services Cloud Operations Engineer
Job Overview
The key purpose of this role is to deliver onsite professional services to an enterprise client. The associated 12 month project will focus on the operationalisation and standardisation of VMware solutions from an IT service delivery and business perspective.
Responsibilities
* Delivering high quality delivery engagements focused on the VMware product suite, to drive improved IT and business outcomes for customers using software defined solutions.
* Engaging with critical PSO customers regarding all facets of IT, including facilities, network, security, systems, strategy and business applications teams, as well as service focused teams, such as capacity management, financial management and event management.
* Provision of leadership in the best practice operationalisation and standardisation of VMware products and related technologies.
* Delivery of projects in the enterprise space, often independently, with a commitment to high-quality outcomes.
* Documentation of technical best practices for reuse in other customer engagements, and contribution to the development of standard consulting service offerings.
* Sharing of past and present skills in a given area of specialization to support technology awareness.
* Maintain and grow PSO’s technical and product knowledge through certification or association.
* Maintain a solid understanding of competition across product, technology, applications, sales and strategies.
Education and Experience
Required:
* Understanding of modern IT data centre practices and IT business operations across the ITIL service lifecycle
* Understanding of Cloud/Service Providers, Systems Integrator and Outsource Provider, Enterprise, Commercial/SMB or equivalent business model
* Sound knowledge of technical skills and comprehensive knowledge in the following;
o Server, network, storage and virtualisation technologies
o OS administration skills Apple, Windows, Unix/Linux platforms
o Directory services Novell, MS Active Directory, LDAP
o Server or storage products from HP, IBM, Cisco, EMC, NetApp, HDS, or similar
o In-depth experience with IT solution, compute, storage, network theory, design and architecture.
* Infrastructure provisioning process and infrastructure lifecycle management
* Systems management, including monitoring and automated provisioning and lifecycle management concepts and related processes including capacity, performance and event management
* Experience with VMware’s products; ESX, vCenter, SRM, vCloud Automation Centre (vCAC/vRealize)
* Experience in architectural design, deployment, and operational support.
* Min 5 years in technology roles and/or related experience.
* At least 3 years’ experience in enterprise-class IT infrastructure environment(s), including a working knowledge of networking, storage, facilities and servers
* At least 3 years’ experience in customer-facing positions as a professional services technology or business consultant
* Understanding of modern IT data centre practices and IT business operations across the ITIL service lifecycle
* Gathering requirements, leading workshops and driving change within the customer organisation
Desirable:
* Federal Government security clearance at NV1 or NV2 level
* Advanced industry certification (e.g VCP, MCSP) desirable and/or strongly preferred
* Experience of working in a matrix organization
* Systems management, including monitoring and automated provisioning and lifecycle management concepts and related processes including capacity, performance and event management
* Proven ability to engage at senior management (and when required C-level)
* Support organisation consulting, including organisational modelling, roles and responsibilities
* Infrastructure provisioning process and infrastructure lifecycle management
* Experience with vRealize Operations (vROps/vCOps)
* IT Service Management and ITIL process design
* Designing technical and/or process solutions
* Presenting to and interfacing with upper level management
