**Job Description**

The Portfolio Director is responsible for creating and driving development of high-value, high-impact VMware Professional Services and Solutions offerings and enabling methodologies that are delivered through VMware Professional Services and its global network of VMware Partners. Working directly with customers and partners, global geo field colleagues, and GTS corporate colleagues this position plays a critical role in establishing VMware's reputation in the virtualization and cloud computing market.

The Portfolio Director will define and lead development of Professional Services and Solutions offerings that enable VMware’s customers to successfully adopt VMware products. This position will work across cross-functional teams including VMware Product Business Units, Professional Services Management, Product Marketing, Product Management, Sales, Marketing and Channel Programs departments to guide the development of Professional Services offerings through the development lifecycle while maintaining the necessary focus on existing offerings and customers.

The role demands a broad skill set that leverages experiences in professional services marketing strategy, product and services development, and technology partnerships to lead a service offering development effort from inception to launch. This includes developing business plans, driving the service offering requirements definition process, working with VMware Services Engineering, Services Marketing, and Geo Professional Services Practices to launch services offerings. The successful candidate will play a leadership role in developing go-to-market plans and driving the sales and marketing launch of new and updated professional services offerings. The position requires strong analytical and inter-personal communication skills and the ability to distill the key issues inherent in complex problems.
Requirements

* Experience creating a highly collaborative and trustworthy environment worthy of eliciting input, feedback, and pain points

* Most possess enthusiasm in the face of difficult challenges and show respect for colleagues, customers, and partners at all times

* Understands the key elements of highly effective Intellectual Property and Intellectual Collateral, and knows how to convert consulting deliverables into IP/IC

* At least 3+ years of product management experience IT Professional Services or Enterprise Software

* Ideal candidate has 3+ years of Professional Services Sales or Practice Management experience

* Strong technical background,

* Technical degree or equivalent required, MBA desired

* Ability to travel up to 50%

* Proven analytical skills and strategic thinking. Demonstrated ability to come up with creative / non-traditional solutions.

* Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to translate technology features into business benefits and customer capabilities

* Experienced in negotiation

* Strong leader, self-starter and proven team player in a high achievement-oriented environment.

* Able to demonstrate both a passion for Professional Services and a strong aptitude for business strategy

* Ability to effectively represent VMware with high profile customers and partners at key corporate events including Customer Advisory Councils, Partner Advisory Councils, VMware Users Groups and in other customer meetings to gather and validate product requirements and proposed features.

* Ability to make difficult choices, especially the ability to say “no” to a favorite stakeholder or customer when validation of value does not align with the intention of the offering

* Must be able to articulate the difference between “invention” and “innovation”
