Located in Morristown, NJ, this position reports to the Director of IT Strategy. This role is responsible for enabling the institutionalization of user-centered design (HUE – Honeywell User Experience) and driving user experience and design thinking across IT as well as processes/functions supported by IT by developing a vision and supporting the execution of programs through training, coaching and participating with program teams.
Position Responsibilities:
* Lead a group of talented designers and user experience specialists to execute HF programs across IT.
* Leverage leadership skills in order to influence the IT organization to develop the next generation of end-to-end user experiences across all the personas and touch points of all new IT systems/applications and some legacy infrastructure.Act as a user-centered design expert for Honeywell, supporting our business units as they institutionalize Human Factors, leveraging human-centered, user experience and interaction design techniques.
* Work with IT leadership to develop a process, management operating system and culture that instills a user-centered design focus for IT applications and processes.
* Incorporate user-centered design into stage gate processes, IT applications and processes and infrastructure development and deployment.
* Develop and recommend user-centered style guidelines and standards for all IT deliverables.
* Proactively participate in HON Human Factors (HF) council and work with external consultants to implement effective change management approaches including training & coaching and monitoring with consistent metrics.
* Develop and recommend user-centered design standards, libraries and approaches for key external facing applications and processes in order to optimize the customer experience.
* Research and recommend specific information architecture approaches that will have significant impact on simplifying the user experience with Honeywell's IT systems and processes.
* Bring in emerging technologies, tools and techniques that can impact our user-centered effectiveness in all the areas IT touches, both internally and externally, in Honeywell as well as our products.
Top candidates will have background including:
* Deep knowledge in user centered design and information architecture
* User experience design, interaction design, web-mobile enablement, industrial design and graphic design experience
* History of demonstrating both imagination and creative problem solving capabilities
* Strong communication and presentation skills in order to evangelize the value of user centered design and mobilize the organization to act in this area.
* Experienced in leading teams involved in information architecture, software systems and human centered design
* Demonstrated ability to bring complex systems to robust and sustainable deployment, moving them from concept all the way to production use
* Strong business acumen
* Clear evidence of leadership and the ability to get things done in a matrix environment
* Exposure to diverse business and cultural environments
* Strong experience in training, coaching, organizational development and driving change in large organizations on a broad basis
Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Human Centered Design, Computer Science, Engineering, Cognitive psychology, Industrial Design or related field
* Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in design thinking/user centered design/HF
Additional Qualifications:
* Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Human Centered Design, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Design is highly desired
* Ability to identify strategic opportunities and use sound decision making to translate opportunities into value added work for Honeywell
* Demonstrated ability to build, manage, energize, influence and motivate high performing globally dispersed teams without direct reporting responsibility
* Excellent project management skills
* Excellent organizational and change management skills
* Demonstrated management skills in the following areas with an ability to coach, assess, evaluate, develop, motivate, and empower team members, especially in a complex and matrix environment
* Ability to think critically, solve problems, and be a strong team player across diverse sets of teams
* Foster teamwork and diversity across functional boundaries
* Strong process skills and process documentation skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, including presentation planning and delivery skills, training and coaching capabilities
