## Position Description

**Introduction: **The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Electrical Engineer to perform embedded systems design and development.

**Job Summary: **Design, integrate, and test advanced embedded systems in a fast-paced, rapid-prototyping, development environment. Provide electronic system design, development, integration, testing, and leadership support to a wide range of electronic system development projects.

**Duties****:**

1. Develop system requirements and architectures; design, review, test, and debug of analog and digital electronics. (35%)
2. Microprocessor, DSP, FPGA, and embedded computer digital and firmware design, integration and test. (35%)
3. Specify, identify, and integrate commercial and custom components for the rapid development of electronic systems (10%)
4. Field test and support of advanced electronic systems. (10%)
5. Document system development, engineering analysis and testing consistent with quality requirements. Present information to review teams. (10%)

## Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:** BS in Electrical, Computer Engineering or other related technical discipline with 2+ years of relevant embedded system experience gained professionally or via academic pursuits. Knowledge of engineering principles regarding software, firmware, and circuit analysis. Appropriate attention-to-detail and quality practices. Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and communicate with other engineers, scientists, and technicians as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

**Desired Qualifications: **MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 4 to15 years of relevant experience to include; experience with Altium, Digital Signal Processing design, analysis with Matlab or equivalent, RF integration/analysis/design, Low-power, low-noise, and high-speed design techniques, and/or FPGA and firmware design. PC software development in C, C++, Java, and/or Python. Computer or sensor networking.

**Special Working Conditions: **Local and long distance travel to field test and demonstration sites. Occasional expanded work hours to support test and delivery schedules.

**Security:** Top Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to classified information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
