Job Description
Summary:
With minimal supervision and general direction, the Technical Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining the operation of the application servers and support all end users’ desktops, laptops and thin clients at assigned facilities. While performing all duties and responsibilities, the Specialist will at all times, model LMI values and principles and act in a manner consistent with the LMI Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
* Maintain application servers for the company
o These servers include but are not limited to: NAS/SAN, File Servers, Citrix Servers, Print Servers, and Software application servers
o Ensure all assigned servers are operational
o Apply patches to the servers to keep them current and up to date
o Complete routine maintenance on all assigned application Servers
o Determine need for replacement or upgrade to servers
o Manage all Maintenance contracts on servers
o Backup Network Admin on WAN, LAN, Gateway Servers
* Provide user support and resolve problems related to the desktop and all related software running on the desktop
o Troubleshoot Desktop hardware, operating system and software application problems
o Research desktop related issues via WEB, product manuals and other methods
o Install fixes on computers as needed
* Maintain compliance with desktop software licenses
o Ensure all software is appropriately licensed prior to installation
o Notify Technical Supervisor and remove any user installed software that has not been purchased by the Company or that is not company approved software
* Requisition desktops and printers for assigned LMI locations
o Coordinate requirements for desktops and printers with IT Personnel and Management at each site to ensure the most cost effective solution for all users
o Maintain standard configurations for all desktops and laptops
o Research and analyze options to help determine best solution
o Coordinate with Network Administrator and other administrators to ensure integration with servers and midrange computers
o Provide recommendations to management on best alternative for users and the Company
o Complete Capital Expense Request (CER) or Requisition Form as required and submit to Technical Support Supervisor
* Install/Coordinate desktops and printer equipment installation for assigned company locations
o Install computer in user’s work space
o Assist IT personnel at other LMI locations with computer installations
* Provide user support and informal training on desktop software and assist users with basic software features
* Develop processes to save and back up data for all assigned systems
o Ensure end users are saving data to the server
o Oversee the server backup jobs to make sure that they complete
o Assist Help Desk with back up of data on server to tape
* Attend and participate in departmental meetings
* Participate in special projects or perform special tasks as identified by management
* Participate in various process improvement projects
Qualifications:
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * Education/Experience: 3-5 years of experience in computer support related field. Technical Degree is preferred.
* Specific Job Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange is a plus. Should have the ability to learn Linux, AS/400 and Veritas.
* Behavior/Work Management Skills: Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities and shifting time requirements. Must be able to promote a participative, team oriented environment, working with customers (both internal and external), all employees, vendors and others in a professional and respectful manner.
* Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills and be able to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing.
* Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical materials and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, work instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, employees and vendors.
* Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to compile and present data in a format that facilitates information sharing and decision making.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time at a desk working and/or attending meetings with periodic breaks. Must be able to move throughout the office and/or manufacturing area and talk, hear or otherwise communicate with employees, management, customers, suppliers and others. May occasionally lift and /or move up to 40 pounds.
Work Environment:
Normal work environment is a typical office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when on the shop floor.
Special Requirement:
The ability to work extended hours, including possible weekends, as required. Some travel should be expected, up to 50%, to other LMI sites, locations or special training programs.
