Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Creative Director is to lead the color, print and graphic direction for the Marmot and Marker Apparel Design Department\.
In addition to creating the color palette and tools for the design team that unifies CMYK, RGB, TCX and spot colors, this position creates original textile designs, prints, graphics and embroidery patterns seasonally\.
The Creative Director stays current with print techniques, works with developers and vendors to test new methods and provides input to the Design team and vendors on the best printing technique to achieve the desired visual effects that meet quality and cost targets\.
This individual will coordinate project management of external graphic design help, design assistants, interns or contract service work when needed\. The Creative Director will develop and adhere to a design schedule to ensure timely completion of designs and design packages according to the development calendar\.
In the interest of fostering a collaborative and team\-oriented environment, the Creative Director will share key learnings and work with colleagues on the Design and Product Engineering teams to create an inspirational, fun, creative environment and design community\.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS \(Other responsibilities may be assigned\)
Develop & drive visual presentation tools to report on trends & overall design vision
Support designers in creation of visual tools for sales meetings, seasonal kick\-off meetings, pre\-lines or in\-house dealer presentations\.
Work with designers to establish color & print capsules for visual merchandising & sales tools
Interpret, manipulate, revise and adjust purchased studio artwork to meet aesthetic design objectives
Provide Design and Merchandising team with multiple print layouts, scale and colorway options for final assortment selection
Create a cohesive system & templates for vendor \`art send out packages¿
Prepare and coordinate all artwork packages inclusive of mill & pitch sheets, vector art files, repeat, layout, scale and technique references for release to vendors
Manage development and approval of all print and graphic strike offs, placements and communicate all comments to the product development team and vendor base as needed
Ensure print and graphic execution meets all standards throughout the development process and proactively resolve execution issues with internal team and print/fabric vendors\.
Maintain print reference library and historical archives, maintain calibration of design studio color printers
Provide and update artwork CADs for line sheets, seasonal workbooks and other presentations
Assist the Design and Product Development team with any illustrations required for vendor manuals, measurement guides and other reference materials
Assist Marketing team on various design/graphic needs when necessary
Research and travel to key regional markets for trend, silhouette and color analysis\.
Travel to printers, fabric mills and relevant trade shows as requested
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Design \(apparel\), or equivalent combination of education and experience\.
Two years at the Director level or Five years at the Management level\.
Experience in flat sketching expertise\.
Hands\-on experience with CAD software\.
Experience in creation of design packages and execution of product designs\.
Experience in designing successful products and collections\.
Experience in research and analysis and design cycles\.
Experience in managing complete product and collection cycles\.
Successful track record in managing a team of design and developers to execute upon primary objectives\.
SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Strong knowledge of formulating color palettes\.
Strong knowledge in creating collections for the retail floor\.
Strong knowledge and understanding of apparel construction\.
Excellent communications skills, including the ability to present concepts to product teams and reviewboards in a persuasive manner, and communicate responsibilities and timelines to designers on team\.
Strong knowledge of product cycles, product design and development process\.
Strong understanding of designing for market, trend, and end uses; evaluating those attempts\.
Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and comfortable in foreign work environments\.
Strong knowledge of aesthetic form and the ability to design for different consumers and end uses\.
Basic knowledge of textile and material construction and properties\.
Basic knowledge of product costs and impact of design\.
Ability to manage and inspire other designers\.
