Primary Focus
The Asset Integrity team coordinates 3 main functions for the Pipeline Integrity Department:
* Project Due Diligence
* Operational Optimization (Pressure Management)
* Strategic Projects
In this role as An Asset Integrity Engineer you will have a primary responsibility to the Pressure Management team (Operational Optimization) but may at any time be required to support any or all groups as the initiative/project requires as well there may be opportunities to transition and cross train between these groups.
Pressure Management
The Pressure Management team (Operational Optimization) coordinates the mitigation of pressure cycling issues and the removal of long term pressure restrictions through a facilitated process with participation of various internal Pipeline Integrity technical groups. This group also represents pipeline integrity in efforts to optimize the maximum operating pressure to balance Integrity costs and capacity revenue. We are also responsible for developing asset plans for specific regions of the company which coordinates/communicates the overall integrity plan with the Asset Performance team.
In order to succeed in the this work coordination between Pipeline Integrity, Asset Performance, Infrastructure Planning , Control Centre Operations and Operations Engineering is required with the facilitation of the needs of Pipeline Integrity led by Asset Integrity engineers.
Due Diligence
This position will be accountable for leading the Pipeline Integrity interface for acquisition and growth projects, on an assigned basis, as sponsored by Business Development and Marketing groups within Liquids Pipelines. This position will develop and ensure execution of Pipeline Integrity plans and budgets encompassing all Pipeline Integrity involvement with each project including engineering studies, inspection plans, and rehabilitation costs through both the MP project lifecycle and pipeline lifecycle (construction through 30 year operation). We are also responsible for developing asset plans for specific regions of the company which coordinates/communicates the overall integrity plan with the Asset Performance team.
Integrity Projects
The Integrity Projects team develops projects and/or proposes modifications to the operation of existing infrastructure to assure long term asset integrity and capacity reliability of the pipeline systems.
Liaison is required between Pipeline Integrity (PI), Liquids Pipelines and Major Projects engineering, and Asset Performance groups in the identification, justification, and active sponsorship of PI-driven projects which is led by Asset Integrity engineers.
All Groups
If required by the initiative/project, the incumbent will interface with Enbridge clients to understand their operational requirements and convey the effectiveness of our Enbridge integrity management requirements. The incumbent may also represent Enbridge and Pipeline Integrity in public forums and regulatory proceedings in order to convey the approach and effectiveness of our integrity management system. These activities required effective communication of complex technical elements to non-technical Enbridge individuals and externally audiences to Enbridge.
Responsibilities
As Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for working with all of LP / MP groups to align the project or initiative and Pipeline Integrity Activities.
Operational Optimization
In Operational Optimization, you will be responsible for working with Integrity, Operations, Asset Performance, Capacity Management, etc. to align systems for the optimization of operational pressure targets to meet capacity and cost requirements.
Responsible for facilitating or participating as the Pipeline Integrity representative in corporate wide initiatives such as:
Conducting detailed evaluations of current operations to determine the causes of and solutions for pressure cycling.
Long term changes to MOP changes to optimize integrity spending profiles and capacity requirements. Conduct a detailed evaluation of current operations to determine current and future MOP requirements based on volumes
The management of pressure restrictions removals and how it will impact future integrity maintenance investments.
Evaluation of operational models to predict change impacts of proposed changes (example: predicted increases in pressure cycling from the addition of new customers).
Developing an overall asset strategy and communication of the Pipeline Integrity plan with internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate senior leadership approvals of the initiative action plans and results.
Present and defend the decisions made on corporate initiative to senior leadership within PI.
Due Diligence
Ensure pipeline integrity is appropriately addressed in the due diligence process, both for internal developments and acquisitions, including standard facilities as well as new focus areas such as CO2 pipelines.
Continue to manage the integrity priorities throughout the development or acquisition through participation in SORT, START, RTO, RTT, and then through commissioning, acceptance and long term operation.
Manage the completion of Engineering Assessments as required for new projects or internal drivers.
Develop, execute and manage documented procedures for all facets of the due diligence process.
Integrity Projects
Develop initial project scopes for PI-driven projects and obtain funding approvals: including preparation of business case(s) and presentations. This will require interfacing with Pipeline Integrity groups to prepare the technical supporting documentation and cross functional engagement with other departments such as Customer Service, Business Development, Asset Performance, Financial Analysis, etc. to facilitate asset based recommendations.
Actively sponsor projects from scope initiation, execution, through to final in-service. This includes the compilation and analyses of project documentation, managing completion of related Engineering Assessments as required, as well as participation in gating process, commissioning, acceptance, and long term operational review activities. This project sponsorship could include individual projects or a portfolio of projects in excess of $100MM.
Be the Pipeline Integrity Asset Lead for one or multiple key pipelines. This includes understanding the Integrity Science of the respective Asset and making balanced business recommendations to senior leadership considering both the cost and revenue impacts to Enbridge. Understand pipeline integrity program analysis results and issues and how they relate to and impact other areas of the business.
Support the development of both the annual capital budget and Long Range Plan (LRP).
Serve as a liaison for Pipeline Integrity on project related functions both within Enbridge and externally, including, project execution, CAPP, regulators, and external information requests.
The type of projects may include: Pipe replacement, geohazard mitigation, hydrotesting, Facility Integrity projects, risk-based projects, imposing pipeline operational changes/restrictions, and deactivation.
Participate in the development and future enhancement of PI Projects tools including repair versus replace decision model(s); group process and procedural documents; and preliminary project scope definition, business case, and presentation templates.
Developing an overall asset strategy and communication of the Pipeline Integrity plan with internal and external stakeholders.

Provide mentoring, training, and direction to departmental staff, contractors, and consultants
Provide technical support to business development initiatives involving pipeline and related terminal development, infrastructure for new pipeline business opportunities.
Maintain and expand a network of consultants and suppliers to ensure industry-leading practices are developed and implemented
Influence industry standards and practices. Monitor industry sources for technical innovations to augment pipeline integrity and Pipeline Integrity Programs.
Manage integrity projects and other tasks as assigned by the Managers within Asset Integrity.
Maintain and promote inter-departmental relationships within PI and between PI and other Enbridge business units.
Take the initiative to lead improvements to the processes and procedures
Represent Pipeline Integrity at Asset Management meetings.
Participate in incident investigations as directed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering and registered as a professional engineer or eligible for registration with APEGA is required. Comparable technical or operational experience will be considered.
A minimum of 7 years of project management or industry-related experience.
Strong Project Management skills
Previous experience as a Project Manager or Project Engineer will be required to be able to demonstrate the ability to develop schedules, track actions, and drive projects to completion.
Successfully prioritize multiple projects to meet task, deliverable, and deadline requirements while managing stakeholder expectations.
Ability to influence without authority.
Strong Data Analysis skills
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
