Job Summary: Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the riverboat providing the highest level of guest and employee safety. Ensures compliance with all applicable governmental regulations with respect to vessel operations.
Qualifications: U.S.C.G. license endorsed as Master of Motor Vessels 4,000 Gross Tons or Unlimited Tonnage required. License currently endorsed for Radar Observer Unlimited and Marine Fire-fighting required. Certified evidence of completion of an appropriate management training program. Current IBA certification. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills required. Strong communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills required. Computer experience to include knowledge of word and excel preferred. Must have a professional appearance and be a team player.
Essential Job Functions:
* Safely operate vessel as required within USCG and IGC guidelines and regulations.
* Operate and manage vessel within legal requirements of USCG, FCC, IGC and other pertinent regulatory agencies.
* Compile, review and maintain daily logs/reports.
* Maintain close communication keeping the DMO informed at all times of pertinent vessel issues specifically those related to safety, regulatory compliance, crew concerns, and guest services.
* Compile and maintain Army Corps of Engineers, USCG, FCC and other reports as required by regulation and company policy.
* Serve as onboard Risk Manager and take corrective actions per company policy and as critical situations may require.
* Provide for the safety and appropriate training of marine and non-marine crew.
* Maintain a strong interest in the vessel, its crew, guests and equipment and manage it accordingly.
* Participate in maintenance and update of Operations Manual in consultation with DMO.
* Conduct drills with Marine and Non-marine crew as mandated by company policy and regulations.
* Conduct Safety audits both as mandated by company policy and as circumstances require. Supervise the coordination of corrective action indicated as a result of safety audits.
* Monitor and Review scheduling of Marine crew by the Bridge Mate to ensure that pertinent laws, regulations and guidelines are followed.
* Ensure that performance and behavior of Officers and crew meet legal and professional requirements.
* Provide discipline for infractions of policy by crew. Consult with Director of Marine Operations for major infractions or those involving officers.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
Must be able to work independently.
Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time (4-6 hours).
Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
Able to correspond via telephone and electronic mail.
Must be fluent and literate in English.
Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions, when handling guest and employee conflicts.
Must be able to maneuver throughout all areas of the property and from floor to floor via stairways (minimum of 20 steps) or escalators.
Must have the manual dexterity to operate vessel equipment and office equipment.
Must be able to tolerate areas containing second hand smoke, dust, loud noises and bright lights.
Must be able to work a varied schedule, holidays and weekends as needed.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must qualify for, obtain, and maintain a gaming license from the Indiana Gaming Commission.
