Our drum & bass playlist series hosted by game changing UK frontrunner Rockwell returns today with Vol 3. This round Rockwell brings us some new treats from Noisia, Richi Brains, and Detboi, as well as his own rework of a grime classic by Dexplicit. Dig into Rockwell X NEST HQ below, featuring a play by play from Rockwell of each selected track.

1) Alix Perez – Can’t See You

Alix kicks off his new imprint ‘1985 Music’ with soulful rollout “Can’t See You”. Available for free download, this is beautifully introspective summertime stuff.

2) Noisia – Anomaly

New Noisia music, doing exactly what Noisia do best – clapping you round the head with a massive mixdown. Set to be played by every DJ at every European Drum and Bass event this summer.

3) Sam Binga – Mind Spirit ft. Rider Shafique (Breakage Remix)

No-one does the drums quite like James Breakage. Effortlessly mangling classic breaks in a way that gives them a modern sheen, his return to Critical is a masterclass in contemporary Jungle. Sam Bingas’ reworking of Breakages’ ‘Staggered Dub’ on the flip is worth a peek as well.

4) Richie Brains – Splatta ft Fox

By now the cat is out of the bag, and the secretive producer Richie Brains has been revealed as an Exit records supergroup consisting of some of the best producers in drum and bass. This cut from the LP sets the tone – drum and bass influenced by everything from dancehall to juke to ghettotech to acid techno.

5) Machinedrum – Dos Puertas ft. Kevin Hussein

Not a producer who is confined by the realms of any one genre, Machinedrum has been drifting closely to the 170bpm mark for a few years now. Forthcoming on Ninja Tune, this is a trademark Machinedrum halftime banger clocking in at 90 / 180bpm.

6) Lynch Kingsley – Secret Dream

More heat from The Dreamers straight out of Turin – a great new label where every release thus far has been of top quality. “Secret Dream” by Lynch Kingsley is clicky juke n’ jungle inspired runner which helps firmly cement The Dreamers as one of the best new labels on the block.

7) Detboi ft. Goldie – Joyride

Dropping the BPM’s but retaining the Jungle aesthetic – think Mella Dee on his Digital Soundboy excursions or Breakages’ heinously weighty ‘Tugz’ – Detboi teams up with drum and bass figurehead Goldie for the cherry on top of his ‘Joyride’ EP – a very eerie and vintage Metalheadz referencing jungle workout with pitched down classic breaks and detuned subs.

8) Friction – V Recordings Tribute Mix

Not strictly a track, but after all its summer (although its still raining in London) so i thought i would include this mix by Friction as the perfect summertime old school mix. Spanning 20 years of V Recordings discography, its amazing how many seminal anthems were released and how many legendary producers careers were nurtured by the London label, still going strong in 2016.

9) Dexplicit – Might Be (Rockwell Cover)

Shameless plug – i recently did a cover version of an old bassline tune i have a bit of a soft spot for so that i could play it out, and thought id sling it up on the soundcloud for free download.
