It’s almost New Years worldwide, and for those who have an interest in the Japanese music scene, that means only one thing: Comiket. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Comiket, think of it as a large-scale independent market that calls in over half-a-million unique visitors each of its three days. From fan-made comics to independent music releases, there’s not many bases left uncovered.

For American artists such as Akira Complex, however, this offers a unique opportunity to wade into the Japanese music scene through hard-hitting releases. That’s where his latest collaborative piece with Japan-based Camellia comes into play.

Reality Distortion is the title track of the pair’s collaborative CD release, and arguably one of the strongest releases I’ve heard in a long time. From high-speed breakdowns to soothing buildups, we’re greeted with a match made in heaven. Akira’s sound design knowledge glistens in the light of Camellia’s no-bars-held style, shining bright amongst the sea of releases that can be expected in the next week.

Available at Comiket for 1,000 yen, and elsewhere for 1,500 yen, you can pick up the pair’s latest CD on the 31st of December. Akira Complex can be found on both Twitter and SoundCloud, as well as Camellia on Twitter and SoundCloud, too.
