The 59th Annual Grammy Nominations are out this morning and are arguably less basic that previous years’ nominations, particularly for electronic and hip hop fans. Chance The Rapper, The Chainsmokers and of course Drake, Beyonce, Kanye and Rihanna are all over this list, and even DJ Khaled got a nod for Best Rap Album for Major Key. But it’s super exciting to see an artist we just fell in love with this past year like Bob Moses make the cut for “Tearing Me Up” in the Best Dance Recording along with a producer who’s been around making waves for a while, Flume, who also got nominated for Best Dance/Electronic album. Seeing Tycho in that category was another thrill, and then some of these other artists in the category we’ve never heard of til today – how does that happen?
Below are some relevant categories so you can see for yourself how much more diverse this year’s nominees seem to be compared to previous years. And check out that “Purple Lamborghini” nod for Suicide Squad in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category! For a complete list of the nominees visit the Grammy website.
