A recent minor-league soccer game in Paraguay was the site of some major-league violence on the field.

A Regional del Sud game between Coronel Romero and Porvenir FC came to an abrupt halt in the 71st minute after a Porveir player jumped into the air and kicked the referee in the face. The player, wearing No. 11, attacked the referee after he had dismissed two of his his teammates.

Police officers were nearby, preventing the violence from escalating. The referee walked off the field, which suggests he did not suffer major injuries. The attacker will certainly face punishment from Paraguay’s soccer authorities in the coming days.

Home team Coronel Romero was winning 2-0 when the incident took place, and the referee decided to end the game and award the victory to the team whose players didn’t try and take his head off.
