New Titles For The Post Convergence Era

Okay, so by now you all know about this Springs Convergence Event coming from DC.  Today DC announced it’s plans for it’s Post Convergence universe.

The new slate (which we’ll get to in a minute) aims to garner the company a much wider fan base than it’s current New 52 line has.  Whilst the New 52 was aimed at bringing in new readers, most fans have commented on the fact that they sucked all the fun out of the universe.  DC clearly want to change that perception and had kind of started that with the new take on Batgirl and Gotham Academy.

First of all there isn’t going to be 52 titles, essentially killing the New 52 branding, although it looks like most of the continuity will remain, they’re not giving that much away about Convergence just yet.  We’re losing a large chunk of titles and gaining 24 new titles, some of this are obvious replacements, but as you’ll see from the list below, there’s some interesting choices.

So with that in mind let’s move onto the list.

Here’s the ongoing titles that will carry on Post Convergence.

I’m sure you can already see where some titles are merely being replaced, Justice League Dark gone, but in comes Dark Universe.  Red Hood & The Outlaws gone, but replaced by RedHood/Arsenal and then a separate Starfire title.  We also get a relaunch of Justice League Of America (which had previously become Justice League United, a title that will remain running) and Constantine is rebranded as Constantine: The Hellblazer, hopefully restoring some of the old Vertigo Constantine that we all loved.

DC had already announced the cutting back of the Green Lantern titles, so now we get to keep the main title and gain Green Lantern: Lost Army, although what the story behind this new title is has yet to be revealed.

Cyborg, the only member of the New 52 Justice League not to have gotten his own title at the launch, finally gets an ongoing series, obviously seeing as a stand alone film has been announced and he will be in the two Justice League movies, it’s be hard not take the opportunity to push this character a little more.

Dr. Fate gets his own title, presumably because he’ll be showing up in the Constantine show, assuming it survives.

For many DC fans, especially those who left after Flashpoint, seeing Martian Manhunter get his own title may well be the catalyst that brings them back to DC.

Now, as a Batman fan, I have to point out that Batman & Robin has been cancelled, but we get Robin, Son Of Batman as a replacement, and then there’s an interesting title that currently we know very little about (besides what’s above) is We Are Robin.

On another personal choice, Section 8 from Garth Ennis and John McCrea is a big one for me.  Reuniting the creative team of Hitman and creating a spinoff title from characters that appeared in that series, I’m genuinely cannot wait to see how this plays out.

Finally, DC have announced three titles that they are calling “offbeat, irreverently funny titles” in Bizarro, Bat-Mite and Prez.

Anyway, as you can see, there’s a lot to discuss here, so please take the opportunity to tell us what you think about this massive shake-up.  Any titles you’re looking forward to?  Any titles that are being cancelled that you’ll miss?  Leave your comments below.
