Jacob Bliksted Sørensen and Mission: Safe Ocean are almost at the end of their incredible journey. Jacob’s ambitious goal of kitesurfing 1,000km along the East Africa coast to raise awareness of and address the root causes of piracy is close to being met, thanks to a final push from the Kuzi trade wind, allowing Jacob to kitesurf into the night to reach the mid-point of the channel between Tanga, Tanzania and Pemba Island.
On Day 21, Jacob tracked approximately 110km! Resuming in the open waters of the channel between Tanga, Tanzania and Pemba Island, Jacob achieves another century of tracked distance under the power of the wind and waves to make it to Shimoni, Kenya. The following day, Day 22, Jacob tracked approximately 110km! Resuming in the open waters of the channel between Tanga, Tanzania and Pemba Island, Jacob achieves another 100km under the power of the wind and waves to make it to Shimoni, Kenya.
Day 23, meanwhile, saw Jacob track 84.07km in 4hr:34m:21s!
Jacob is getting closer to his target of kitesurfing over 1000km along the coast of East Africa from his start point in Pemba, Mozambique and the goal of Mombasa is getting closer every day.
Naturally as proud supporters and sponsors of Jacob’s mission, we’ll bring you the news of Jacob’s safe arrival as soon as we have it!
About Mission: Safe Ocean & Jacob Bliksted Sørensen
Our mission is to help the people of East Africa by raising awareness and addressing the root causes of piracy. Our hope is to contribute to a safer ocean and help reduce the piracy risk for the benefit of shipping and our seafarers. We would like to encourage the international shipping community and anyone with an interest in East Africa and the Indian Ocean to endorse and support this fundraising mission, so we can ensure that we maximise the potential benefit to East Africa, shipping, international trade and the long term safety of seafarers. Mission: safe ocean’s vision for 2020 is a safe ocean, one day enabling a 6000+ km kitesurf mission from Durban to Djibouti (incl. 3000+ km along the Somali Coastline).
This mission could become a symbol of regional stability and would show a different and beautiful side of East Africa. The objective is to assist in unlocking East African potential by raising awareness and addressing the root causes to piracy and facilitate the launching of coastal projects and visiting projects launched between 2015 – 2019. The mission will contribute to a safer ocean for the benefit of not only East Africa, but also international trade, shipping and seafarers.
