This year, we will be spending Thanksgiving Day away from home for the first time. Although I love to prepare Thanksgiving dinners, I have to say that I am excited to take a break from the kitchen after 6 straight years.Since we will be away, I admit that I have been slacking in the fall and Thanksgiving decorations department around the house. However, I do have for you today a beautiful and easy DIY Thanksgiving tablescape; a project that I made for eHow last year.

Things  You will Need

To make this easy Thanksgiving  tablescape you will need your usual fall gourds, pumpkins, candles, acorns, fall leaves, berries, and moss.

Below is a suggested list, some of the following are affiliate links. For more information, please read my Affiliate Disclosure.

Rustic window box – You can leave it natural or stain it.

Wood stain, 1/2 pint –I used red mahogany, but you can use any color you like.

Spanish moss, 2- 8 ounce bags –  I used brown, just to fill the bottom of the box.

Fall leaves garland – You can find many designs at your local craft store. I found this to be a good one for a good price.

Natural or faux gourds – I personally prefer the faux, I use them year after year.

Natural or faux pumpkins – find them at your local supermarket or craft store.

Pillar candles, 2 – This is optional. I always have some in hand. Flame-less candles will work great too.

Natural fillers such as pinecones, twigs, acorns, etc.

Make Your Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Just follow these 7 easy steps:

If you choose to stain the window box, start by doing that. Allow 24 hours for the stain to completely dry.

Fill the bottom of the box with a thick layer of moss. Enough to make a bed that will later hold the gourds.

If you are using candles, this is when you place them. I placed mine evenly distributed within the box’s lenght.

Arrange the garland on top of of the moss and around the candles. Place it naturally, there’s is not right or wrong for this step.

Place gourds, berries, pine cones, and/or acorns everywhere in the box, trying to fill empty gaps. Again, there’s no right or wrong.

Flank each end of the window box with big pumpkins.

Print your napkin ties to complete the Thanksgiving tablescape (instructions below).

I found this autumn decor kit  to be a great deal on Amazon (I did the research for you!) and for under $30.00 you can get a collection of leaves, acorns, burlap leaves, and mini gourds to fill up the window box. Or you can choose to scatter the kit on the table. Use your imagination!

Free Printable Thanksgiving Napkin Ties

Your beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape would not be complete without a personal touch. I prepared a free printable of  twelve (2 inches circles) Thanksgiving tags that you can use as you please. As always, please abide to my Terms of Use.

To get this look, print them on kraft paper* and punch them out with a 2″ scalloped punch*. Wood clothespins serve as place cards .
