Registration Opening for 2014 – 2015 School Year
Registration for the 2014-2015 school year opened on March 28. This includes registration for Summer 2014, Fall 2014, and Spring 2015.
DPI has not released the new allotment totals yet for districts and charter schools. We will start districts and charters with their allotment totals that they had for the 2013-2014 school year. We will then adjust when the new numbers come in, which should be soon. You will likely see an increase in your allotment totals after the adjustment.
If you have any difficulties, please open a ticket at the Virtual Support Center here: http://www.help.ncvps.org/
Registration Primer
Be sure to check out our District and School Semester Prep. There are some good early registration tips there.
Courses Not Offered in 2014-2015
We have a number of courses that used the old North Carolina standards that we will no longer offer. We continued to offer courses with the old standards to allow students who had already started those tracks to complete them. The old-standards courses were offered concurrently with our new-standards courses. Moving forward, we will only offer the new-standards courses.
We also have two courses that have been pulled so that they can be revised, and they are out of circulation for the 2014-2015 school year.
Each “retired” course has been replaced with the new Essential Standards course. See the complete list below.

NCVPS Teacher Data and SAR
The PowerSchool team has officially stated that the current functionality in PowerSchool will not allow NCVPS to run its own SAR. NCDPI is working with the schools to develop a process to update NCVPS data so that schools can include NCVPS enrollments in their SAR. This will be done similarly to how we have done it in NCWISE in the past, whereby schools schedule students in their system with our teacher data.
However, teacher data will be automatically uploaded into PowerSchool so that the data managers do not have to enter this data by hand as they have in the past. DPI has all the NCVPS teacher data for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014, and they should have the data imported by mid-March.
NCVPS will not be releasing the SAR data to schools. Schools should refer to their Homebase Support, as all the information will be pre-loaded into the systems of each school.
Technology Updates
If you are a school that has students using Google Drive to submit assignments, please make sure those students are aware that the best and safest way to submit through Google Drive is to share the individual document with your email address specifically rather than just making the document public.
Also, this is just a friendly reminder for students to always check their grades after submitting assignments to make sure the assignment in question actually did go through. In addition, storing work offline (especially for longer assignments) is the only sure-fire way to make sure work isn’t lost if a submission fails.
