The American Meteorological Society (AMS) promotes the development and distribution of information and education on atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences, including climate science. In 2012, AMS published over 1,800 articles in their various journals, and as of April 22, 2013, two NCDC-led papers ranked among the top 10 “most read” for the previous 12 months on the AMS website. Explaining Extreme Events of 2011 from a Climate Perspective ranks number one and State of the Climate in 2011 ranks number six on the AMS “Most Read” list.
