LAS VEGAS — Nevada law firm Kaempfer Crowell presented a seminar to the Nevada Airports Association, the primary organization of Nevada airports, on aviation business opportunities in the emerging drone market. The firm has been addressing client needs regarding development, design, testing and use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones since 2009.
The seminar covered fundamentals for obtaining Certificates of Waiver or Authorization (COAs) to operate UAS from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and legal principles regarding airspace use. Kaempfer Crowell has been providing leading research and advice to clients on airspace aspects of land use and general aviation law for over 20 years. With civilian commercial drone use on the horizon, Steven E. Tackes, Aviation Department Chair, outlined business opportunities in research, development, testing, certification, manufacturing, maintenance and repair, with particular insight to achieving first-to-market advantages. The seminar was attended by executive management of Nevada airports, aviation engineering firms, airport planning firms, and government representatives from both state and federal aviation agencies.
