RV gets customers thinking of many travel possibilities, even the luxury of ‘glamping.’

(LAS VEGAS) – When Johnnie Walker RVs’ head of marketing, Michael Walker, had a 350-gallon saltwater fish tank installed in an RV, it was just a novelty idea.

Today, more than a month after the RV made its appearance on Animal Planet’s “Tanked” TV show, the vehicle is drawing attention from showroom guests and increasing foot traffic at Johnnie Walker RV stores.

“We didn’t see this coming,” said Walker. “When this project first came along we just thought the idea of being on reality TV would be a neat way to celebrate our 50-year anniversary. After the episode ran it was an unexpected but great surprise to see the increase in business!”

Walker estimates the RV has helped boost foot traffic about 25 percent at the company’s 4784 Boulder Highway showroom location. It has also helped sell Pacific Coachworks’ Econ trailers, the product  in which the tank was built into by the Las Vegas-based Acrylic Tank Manufacturing (ATM) with help from Johnnie Walker RVs’ staff.

Even more, with the growth of “glamping,” AKA “glamour camping,” blending luxury elements with the camping experience, the fish-tank/RV concept has showroom visitors thinking up seemingly impossible ideas for RV’s and camper trailers.

“It sure gets people thinking ‘what if?’” Walker said.

“’Glamping,’ while a lot of it is destination-based right now, has gotten people thinking about what else they can do to make their RV experience a little more individualized, homey or even five-star. For us, having native fish from the Pacific Ocean brings a sense of tranquility and calm to the space.”

Walker hasn’t set a price for the RV and is uncertain as to whether he will put it up for sale in the future. The project, which took a couple months to complete earlier this year, was initiated to commemorate the family’s 50 years in business.  Johnnie Walker RVs  has remained a family business through four generations.
