RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The place to “Catch ‘em all” Sunday morning was Lafayette Village in Raleigh, where a business hosted a Pokemon Go event.
Computer Repair Doctor hosted the event beginning Sunday morning and lasting into the afternoon.
People young and old took over the entertainment area at Lafayette Village to play the popular game, which has been downloaded more than 15 million times and has been said to be the biggest mobile game of all time, surpassing Candy Crush.
Although swarms of people could be seen having fun on Sunday, the phone app has raised concerns for safety among some.
In some cities, there have been reports of robberies, shootings and traffic incidents as people were playing the game.
Those who attended Sunday’s Pokemon Go event said they were aware of their surroundings and were just there to have a good time.
“If you watched Pokemon at any point in your life this is kind of what you dreamed about, so it’s kind of like living a childhood dream, I guess,” Omar Barnes, of Raleigh, said. “But me, myself, I try to stay off of it when I’m on the road and so does my co-worker, but I don’t think here, I don’t think we’ll have any issues with it.”
Authorities are reminding players to stay alert and not to trespass on private property while trying to catch Pokemon.
