WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) – The State Highway Patrol has now identified all five teenagers that were involved in crash on Thanksgiving Fire Road in Johnston County Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., troopers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Thanksgiving Fire Road approximately half a mile south of N.C. 42 East.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Acura 4-door passenger vehicle was speeding when it entered a curve and lost control. The vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder and then into a field where it rolled over.
The vehicle then struck a utility pole and a passenger in the middle of the back seat, 15-year-old Ana Gonzalez of Wendell, was ejected. She was transported to Wake Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.
The driver was identified as Fermin Rodriguez, 16, of Zebulon.
Highway Patrol identified the three other passengers Friday as Nora Garcia Zuniga, 16, of Zebulon; Sergio Garcia, 15, of Zebulon and Jovanny Vargas, 16, of Selma.
Rodriguez, along with Zuniga, Garcia and Vargas, were transported to Wake Medical Center with non-life injuries.
Troopers said Rodriguez was traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone.
All five occupants are students at Corinth Holders High School, located just outside of Wendell.
Troopers said charges are pending.
