HICKORY, N.C. (AP) – Police have identified the remains found in some woods in Hickory as those of a man reported missing since September 2014.
Multiple media outlets report that police say the remains of William Pierre Mayfield were found by a property owner Tuesday.
Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid says Mayfield’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
Reid says Mayfield’s family reported him missing Sept. 24, 2014. He was 32 years old.
Reid says the North Carolina State Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet determined a cause of death.
A missing person flier from the Hickory Police Department says Mayfield was last seen Sept. 21 leaving a gas station in a small silver car. Police say they believe Mayfield attended a party in Hickory that night.
