Mark asks…

can anyone help with a natural, herbal remedy for anxiety

vti answers:

For a natural herbal remedy, Valerian root is known to help with stress and anxiety.

You may want to discuss your situation with a homeopath or naturopath though, Then they can suggest what will work best for your situation. If you know what it is that is causing your anxiety, then look to address that – will be a big help. You may find other options such as acupuncture, or even just a relaxing massage may help you.

Sandy asks…

Are there any natural remedies for anxiety?

My hubby hasn’t been getting any sleep for about 2 wks now, he say’s he’s anxious and just can’t sleep. So he’s usually in and out of bed till around 3 or 4AM and then has to get up at 7:30 for work. =(

Last night he went to bed around 2AM, but at 3 he got up and vomited. Our family has been going through a little stress lately, so I’m thinking that’s the source. I’m leary of him going to his family’s dr b/c they always presrcibe antibiotics, even when unnecessary. And he just takes it, no questions asked. Drives me crazy. No fever last night, and he says he feels fine. He says he didn’t eat anything unusual yesterday and we had pizza last night. Are there any alternatives to the mainstream doctors/meds? Any natural remedies?

TIA

Tia, believe me we are going tru the same problems like yours.

Its been 3 years since we cannot sleep with out sleeping aids.

My husband, never had this problem before, I always envy him that he sleeps so good , but now he is the same like me.

We took Xanax, but it creates dependency and as a naturist I knew its not good. But we needed something to knock us out.

Lately I found this Knock out thing. Its helping us a lot, its natural, we weak up fine in the morning.Maybe you want to try it, its safe, I know the ingredients. You can buy it at any vitamin store.

Knock Out® is a combination of Melatonin, Valerian and Theanine.

Melatonin is a metabolic hormone made in the pineal gland, retina, and intestines. Melatonin is released into the blood stream by the pineal gland (which resides in the brain) to set your body’s biological clock and initiate sleep.** Darkness stimulates the pineal gland and causes it to produce more melatonin. Day light stops your body’s production of melatonin. Melatonin helps to promote healthy sleep patterns.** Melatonin also protects cells from free radical damage, and directs the release of growth and sex hormones.**

Theanine is believed to be the primary component of green tea that provides a relaxing effect.** Theanine is an amino acid derivative of glutamine. Oral doses of 50 and 200 mg of theanine given to healthy volunteers promoted alpha brain wave production.** Alpha waves are associated with a calm mental state. Theanine helps to induce a state of calm relaxation.**

Valerian is known for its calming effects, and also used as a sleep aid.** GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter (message sender) in the brain. GABA plays a role in regulating sleep-wake cycles, and is involved in initiation of sleep. Melatonin, theanine and Valerian extracts all interact with the GABA receptor.

William asks…

what are some natural remedies to treat really bad anxiety?

ive got really bad anxiety, and so far the onlt thing thats really helped it thats totally natural is marijuana, but i cant always get it cuz im 14 and i dont always have the money, so i was just wondering if anyone knew any cheap effective natural remedies, thanks!

vti answers:

Cutting caffeine and sugar will help, but doing some moderate exercise (walking, jogging, etc) can help quite a bit as well.

If you would like some added help, there are some natural products for stress and anxiety. Some of the most popular are GABA, L-Theanine, Rhodiola Rosea, 5-HTP, and L-Tryptophan.

vti answers:

Try Bach flower remedies (rescue remedy is a good all rounder) . Try White Chestnut to help calm the galloping thoughts that wake you up. Also St John’s Wort can help with stress and depression. You could also try Valerian flower tea or capsules before bed for a natural sedative.

Also avoid coffee and caffeine after 3pm, as it takes a while to get out of the system! Tea (just plain tea with milk) is a great calmer. It contains L-theonine which helps to calm and relax you.
