MAW was briefed in recent days by the team at Arxan Technologies, a provider of application protection solutions. The company, we have learned, has expanded application security protections for the Apple tvOS platform.
While various applications are pre-installed on the newly announced Apple TV and are protected by Arxan’s application security measures, this new move shows that Arxan continues to expand its support for all major Internet of Things (IoT) platforms.
The newest protections, we’re told, were designed to assure app performance, protect sensitive data, and prevent tampering, reverse-engineering, and cryptographic key exposure.
“With Digital TV Research predicting that Smart TVs will account for 36 percent of the total number of connected televisions by 2020, and the anticipated rapid adoption of Apple TV, there is demand for the development of secure applications for the burgeoning ecosystem,” the company tells us.
According to Vince Arneja, VP of Product Management at Arxan, the need for security has been well-learned by the marketplace.
“App developers have learned many lessons from iOS apps over the years, particularly the need to bake more robust protection into the apps before they are released ‘into the wild’, and they are now applying those lessons to Apple tvOS,” Arneja said. “The apps on the new Apple TV are responsible for delivering an exceptional customer experience, and to do that they must be secure and trusted.”
