Student Health and Counseling Services is seeking a talented, hard-working individual, who is passionate about enhancing the psychosocial development and emotional well-being of Cal Poly Pomona students.

THE DEPARTMENT

Counseling Services is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).  Counseling Services is a unit within Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS), which is a department within the Division of Student Affairs.  The unit strives for excellence in student services by adhering to the values adopted by the Student Affairs Division (i.e. a student-centered philosophy, integrity, interconnectedness, passion, quality, and richness of diversity).  Reflective of these values, Counseling Services provides a variety of mental health, psycho-educational and outreach services to the university community.  The mission of Counseling Services is to advance student success by promoting community wellness, removing psychological barriers, and cultivating the personal strengths of Cal Poly Pomona students through culturally relevant mental health services designed to transform their personal, social and academic lives.

POSITIONS TITLE AND DESCRIPTION

Counseling Services invites applications for one Faculty Counselor and Clinical Services Coordinator position (Full-time, Tenure-track, 12 months).

This position requires excellence in clinical service delivery including individual, couples, and group counseling, initial screenings/intakes of students seeking services, crisis coverage (including non-life threatening issues) and emergency intervention (including hospitalization), the facilitation of on-campus and external referrals, treatment planning and clinical case management, and conducting psychological testing/screening (as needed).  Duties also include indirect clinical services in the form of consultation and outreach services (i.e., psycho-educational programs) to various constituencies on campus (e.g., student organizations, faculty and staff), serving as a resource to university offices in an effort to enhance student life, and providing clinical supervision for unlicensed clinicians.  Some evening and weekend hours required to meet workload demands and/or departmental responsibilities, and to provide quality services.

The Clinical Services Coordinator will be part of the Crisis Response Team, the after-hours on-call rotation system in conjunction with Protocall Services, a contracted professional mental health on-call service.  Some after-hours on-site duties may be required, as determined by the nature of the crisis.  The counselor also provides coverage in the event of a crisis or campus emergency, as requested by the Interim Director, the Executive Director of Student Health and Counseling Services, the Administrator-in-Charge (AIC), or the designated Administrator who is overseeing the crisis/emergency situation.  While most of the after-hours crisis intervention involves phone consultation, there will be times when the situation rises to the level where on-site intervention after-hours is necessary.

In collaboration with Coordinator of Clinical Training, provide clinical supervision, guidance on case management issues, and provide verbal and written feedback to unlicensed clinicians.  The Clinical Services Coordinator will attend departmental meetings as scheduled, needed/and or requested.  Participate in other activities, as needed, to carry out services within Counseling Services as determined and assigned by the Interim Director of Counseling Services and/or Executive Director of Student Health and Counseling Services.

The Clinical Services Coordinator will assist the Interim Director in being aware of proper staff clinical caseloads and responsibilities.  Assist with orientation of newly hired clinical staff regarding issues related to clinical services coordination.  Coordination duties include coordinating intake and walk-in schedules, monitoring the flow of clients, assessing the efficiency of the intake process, ensuring counselors’ availability during walk-in hours, and maintaining waiting list.  In collaboration with the support staff carry out case assignment procedures and related student contacts.  Other duties include assisting the Interim Director with coordination and in his/her absence facilitating the clinical staff peer consultation group meetings. This position also involves assisting the Director in advising the Counseling Services team in the development of departmental policies and procedures related to clinical service delivery, with significant projects taking place during non-peak clinical times of service delivery.  The Clinical Services Coordinator will serve as backup to the Interim Director for requests for records and with coordinating clinical records in electronic health records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•  Possession of a doctorate in behavioral sciences, clinical or counseling psychology, or a specifically related academic field.

•  A valid license to practice as a Psychologist in the state of California; or if licensed in another state, eligible for reciprocity per CA Business and Professions Code Chapter 6.6 Article 3 § 2946 (see http://www.psychboard.ca.gov/lawsregs/index.shtml), and must be licensed in CA within six months of employment.

Experience Required:

•             Must be licensed for at least two years.

•             Minimum of two years of full-time experience working in a University and/or College Counseling Center.

•             Experience in brief counseling with individuals, couples, and groups utilizing professional therapy orientations, techniques, and strategies.

•             Experience in crisis intervention and working with a broad range of presenting problems.

•             Experience working with diverse populations.

•             Experience developing and implementing a broad range of outreach services, including consultation/mediation interventions, training modules, workshops, and presentations.

•             Experience supervising, training, and evaluating unlicensed clinicians.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

•             Demonstrated ability to perform brief therapy, and psychological assessment, especially as pertains to the developmental needs of a college student population.

•             Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and competence in addressing the needs of diverse clients.

•             Knowledge of and experience with mental health models and policies/procedures related to the field of psychology.

•             Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated ability to make effective oral presentations, facilitate an open exchange of ideas, and write clear and concise clinical case notes, documents, and reports.

•             Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with and respond to multiple constituencies and make meaningful connections within and outside the counseling center.

•             Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions, exercise sound clinical judgment, multi-task and set priorities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In order to meet the service needs of Cal Poly Pomona students one or more of the following preferred qualifications are desired:

•             Licensed for at least three years.

•             A valid license to practice as a psychologist in the state of California at the time of application.

•             Completion of an APA-accredited doctoral program and an APA-approved pre-doctoral internship.

•             Experience in a leadership role or coordination of a program.

•             Specialty in serving the mental health needs of African American college students.

•             Specialty in serving the mental health needs of LGBTQ college students.

•             Specialty in serving the mental health needs of male college students.

•             Specialty or extensive experience in treating eating disorders.

•             Extensive experience working with addictive and compulsive disorders.

•             Specialty, interest in, and experience working with survivors of trauma (childhood abuse, sexual abuse, and/or domestic violence).

•             Experience working with serious mental illness in an outpatient setting.

SALARY

$70,000 - $76,000 annually commensurate with experience.  Position includes a very attractive benefits package.
