Musician Alanis Morissette has reportedly lost $2.6 million worth of jewellery after burglars broke into her Los Angeles home.
Law enforcement sources tell editors at TMZ.com, that thieves targeted the ironic rocker, 42, last Thursday when she was away from her home in the city’s Brentwood district.
Editors at the gossip site report that other items may have been stolen in addition to Alanis’ $2 million stash of jewellery.
The Canadian rock star, who became a mother for the second time last year, has also been the victim of white-collar crime. Alanis Morissette’s former business manager admitted this week he embezzled millions of the singer-songwriter’s dollars, saying in documents filed in a California court that he had stolen more than $8.5 million from her and other clients.
The manager, Jonathan Todd Schwartz, worked for a California company that helped clients handle personal finances, including bank accounts. In documents filed Wednesday with the U.S. attorney’s office for the Central District of California, details of which were outlined in a statement released by the court, Schwartz said that between 2010 and 2014, he had taken $6.28 million from Morissette’s accounts without her knowledge.
Jonathan, who has also worked with Lady Gaga and Beyonce, admitted taking the cash from the singer over a period of four years. He claimed he also took about $2.22 million from other clients.
The rogue business manager’s plea deal calls for him to serve a sentence of between four and six years in prison.
In the statement released by the court, the IRS criminal investigation agent, Anthony J. Orlando, said that Schwartz had been “caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar.”
Alanis sued his partners at his former company, GSO Business Management, last year but dropped the suit after reaching a settlement.
