As her beloved dog, Vado, was lifted into the air, his leash stuck between the closed doors in a descending elevator, Tamara Seibert watched on, terrified.

“I thought I was about to lose the love of my life (my puppy),” the Toronto resident wrote on her Facebook page, calling the experience “one of the most traumatic” of her life.

Seibert was able to save her choking Rottweiler by freeing him from his collar, but she “mangled [her] hand in the process.” She reportedly broke two fingers.

“I thought I was going to watch him die,” she told the Toronto Sun. “I’ve never been so hysterical in my life.”

The incident was caught on her surveillance video nearly a month ago. Seibert posted the video to her Facebook page yesterday.

She warned friends to be careful, because “something so simple can go horribly wrong.”

In a follow-up post, the 25-year-old Ryerson University student admitted she had been “reckless” in not watching Vado more closely.

“But just to put things in perspective I’ve lived in my building for almost 5 years so my dog and I have taken the elevators [approximately] 4,000 times,” she wrote. “It’s so routine.”

She wrote that she’d posted the video to draw attention to how dangerous it can be to get a leash or item of clothing, like a scarf or dress, caught between closed elevator doors.
