Jimmy Walker WITB PGA Championship

American Jimmy Walker relied on the new Titleist 917 driver to fire his way to a maiden major victory at the PGA Championship.

The 37-year-old Ryder Cup star held off a late charge from world number one Jason Day as he parred the 18th for a one-shot victory.

Solid driving was the foundation for Walker’s win although he did get fortunate on a couple of occasions and showed great recovery skills with either his Titleist 716 MB irons, Titleist 915Fd 5 wood or Titleist Vokey SM6 wedges.

The bunker hole out on 10 was arguably the key moment of the final round as it gave him some breathing space down the stretch.

It was a good final round on the greens too as he went bogey-free, holing some crucial putts for par on the front nine. The Scotty Cameron GSS 350 prototype was in fine working order throughout the week.

“I felt confident. I felt confident in myself,” Walker said.

“I felt confident in what I was doing. Felt confident in my golf swing, my putting, my chipping. Kind of tried to wrap myself around that; that everything was feeling good, and to go with that and trust what I was doing.

“Trust all the stuff that I have been working on, and that’s what I tried to apply out there. I know I made nine pars in a row to start, and I hit a lot of quality golf shots. Hit a lot of greens today. Just kind of kept it right out there in front of me.

“My proximity to the hole didn’t seem like it was very close today. I felt like I had 30- and 40-footers all day, so the 2-putting, I felt like I had a 2-putt every hole. But I made a lot of good short putts, 4-, 5- and 6-footers to keep the round going, which is what you’ve got to do. You’ve got to do that to win any tournament.”

Following on from Henrik Stenson’s win at the Open, it was back-to-back majors for the Titleist Pro V1 golf ball. Walker used the Pro V1x while Stenson games the Pro V1.

Walker was also sporting some new FootJoy apparel and wears the FootJoy Icon Black golf shoe.

Stay tuned over the next couple of months for more details on the Titleist 917 metals…
