This weekend we'll say goodbye to November and welcome December. The winter holidays are just around the corner, and you'll find plenty to occupy you in the meantime.

Friday, November 30

On stage at Clearwater's Mahaffey Theater, you'll find dynamic duo Karen Gomyo (violin) and Christian Poltera (cello) performing in Florida Orchestra Masterworks: Brahm's Double Concerto. These invigorating and captivating melodies are sure to take your mind off the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

Also performing in Clearwater this weekend is Australia's Little River Band. They'll be performing free in the Cleveland Street District for Blast Friday, a street celebration with local vendors, contests, and entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Festivities kick off at 5:30 pm and last till 10:00.

If you're still searching for the holiday spirit, head to Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa. Mayor Bob Buckhorn will light the city's Christmas tree. Stay for a free performance by American Idol contestant Michael Lynch and the Gibbs High School choir--and a screening of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

Saturday, December 1

At the Young Eagles Flight Rally, kids ages 8-17 get a chance to experience what it's like to be a pilot. Volunteer pilots will take each kid on a 15-minute flight from Clearwater Airpart over Countryside and the Gulf Beaches area. Participants get a certificate of completion and can enter their names into the "World's Largest Logbook."

We're all counting pennies during this time of year, so it's the perfect time to visit the Museum of Science and Industry for only $5. All of MOSI's interactive exhibits are included, along with the IMAX film "To the Arctic." Kids of all ages will love this outing!

Head to North Straub Park in St. Petersburg for the Snowfest and Santa Parade. Following the parade, over 65 tons of snow will be blown into the streets, creating an unlikely winter wonderland! Experience toboggan rides, a climbing wall, arts and crafts, and plenty of other activities. Wristbands are $5 per person.

Sunday, December 2

Tampa's Hard Rock Cafe hosts something a little different: Acoustic Christmas. Hosted by local radio station 100.7, the show will open with Tristan Pettyman, while Gavin DeGraw headlines. This event is open to people 21 and up.

The Congregation B'nai Israel's annual Hanuka Block Party has grown into a yearly gift and craft show in St. Petersburg. Local and out of state merchants will offer fine, one-of-a-kind gifts, and delicious ethnic food will also be available all day long. Admission is free.
