Buffalo, New York lays claim to the founding of the chicken wing. in 1964, Teressa Bellissimo created them at the restaurant she owned one evening when her son Dominic and his friends requested a late night snack. The rest of the city’s restaurants and bars couldn’t resist the power of the wing and within a few years mayor Stan Makowski proclaimed National Chicken Wing Day a holiday in 1977.
