Chemonics seeks an operations associate for our Southern Africa regional business unit. The associate will support operational functions related to establishment and maintenance of corporate management systems, recruiting and hiring personnel, managing regional financial performance, planning team-building activities, and implementing staff satisfaction and professional development initiatives. This is an exciting and dynamic time for the Southern Africa region, with current projects supporting behavior change communications in the health sector, education reform, climate change adaptation, and regional transboundary water and natural resource management. We also anticipate upcoming donor investments in health, agriculture, and economic growth. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
• Monitor staffing requirements, workload, and job satisfaction issues within the region
• Oversee home-office recruitment process for project management teams
• Screen candidates, conduct interviews and reference checks, and prepare necessary paperwork for hiring
• Assist with coordination of formal performance evaluation process and informal feedback mechanisms
• Coordinate planning for professional retreats and other social and professional activities
• Complete administrative tasks for the region and senior vice president and brief the senior vice president on pertinent operational issues
• Oversee administration and sharing of staff travel and leave schedules
• Contribute to technical practice of relevance to areas of interest or focus, sharing information and best practices learned with the company
• Participate on new business proposal teams
• Foster and demonstrate a workplace inclusive of creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, innovation, and exceeding expectations

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in international development or relevant technical field required
• Minimum one year of relevant work experience with ability to handle routine tasks and operational issues
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
• Ability and willingness to travel to rural and/or fragile environments
• Strong administrative skills, word processing abilities, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to follow standard practices and procedures, receive general instruction and supervision on work progress, and make significant contribution to end results
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Self-starter with strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and strategic thinking skills
• Demonstrated interest in international development and program management
• Ability to build and maintain successful relationships with internal and external parties
• Resourcefulness in problem-solving and initiative to learn new skills
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• Experience in Africa a plus
