About LIVES:
The LIVES initiative (Linked Indicators for Vital Ecosystem Services) from the Luc Hoffmann Institute is focused on creating a network of natural capital indicators that will assist decision-makers assess the consequences of actions across the Food, Energy, Water nexus, with a particular focus on sustaining biodiversity and ecosystem services for people and the planet. The Lives project aims to understand the effectiveness and coverage of indicators currently in use and to use this understanding to advance two goals: 1) direct targeted research towards the establishment of a set of linked indicators that enable decision makers to effectively measure food, energy and water supplies at multiple scales, with strong integration; and 2) explore combinations of food energy water indicators that can be combined effectively with existing economic indicators.
Location/Contract Details:
WWF office in Gland, Switzerland. This is a fixed-term 2 year contract.
Main responsibilities:
Develop and implement work plan for the Global LIVES project, monitor progress of internal and external project units and teams, and implement remedial actions as needed to ensure compliance with plan goals, timelines, and budget.
Support the recruitment and establishment of core project technical team and Collaborative Research Teams, including identifying and engaging institutional partners that may participate as collaborators or via co-location of staff and infrastructure.
Organize meetings of Collaborative Research Teams and support the provision of infrastructure and other tools for inter- and intra-team collaboration.
Facilitate communication between Collaborative Research Teams, core technical team, and Luc Hoffman Institute Director.
Identify and engage potential partners that will support and participate in project implementation within WWF priority regions.
Support communication and outreach efforts to external funding sources.
What you need:
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
PHD Degree in Biology, Ecology, Social Science or Environmental Economics
Minimum 6 years of experience working in a related field, such as environmental conservation, sustainable development, or international development.
Experience working internationally.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive partnerships with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and corporations.
Experience in research analysis and synthesis directly related to conservation and environmental science, including experience with field data collection, database creation and management, and data analysis and visualization.
Outstanding project management skills including strategy development, resource management, and performance management.
Fluency in English, with exceptional proficiency in written and oral communication.
Sensitivity to and ability to work effectively within different cultures.
Excellent organisational skills; ability and enthusiasm for on-deadline, short timeline tasks.
Capacity to work independently, with little direct supervision, as well as in an intense team environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in the use of data analysis and computer office applications.
