The East Asian – Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) is the major international framework established for the conservation of migratory waterbirds and their habitat in the flyway.The Flyway Partnership exists to enhance collaboration on the conservation of migratory waterbirds and their habitats as international cooperation is essential to protect migratory waterbirds throughout the flyway.

The EAAFP is served by a Secretariat located in Incheon, Republic of Korea, established in 2009. The Secretariat is an international organization working closely with the Flyway Partners from governments, intergovernmental organizations and NGOs. Its business is conducted in the English language.

The Secretariat is seeking a Communication Officer to take responsibility for supporting the development of the Communication, Education, Participation and Awareness (CEPA) programmed by the Secretariat and its Working Group. This is an international position that includes promoting international cooperation among countries in conserving waterbirds and raising the profile of migratory waterbirds, their habitats and links to people, and the work of EAAFP.

Duties and responsibilities of the Communication Officer include:

Communication, Education, Participation and Awareness (CEPA) Activities

Responsibility:

 

With CEPA Working Group (WG), help finalize, refine, promote and implement the EAAFP CEPA strategy

 

Activities:

 

1. Identify relevant CEPA processes and focal points in Partner countries (e.g. Ramsar CEPA focal points) and Flyway-wide initiatives, link/incorporate into the EAAFP CEPA Strategy, as appropriate, and maintain ongoing communication to identify areas of cooperation;

 

2. Develop CEPA activities, tools and materials, including CEPA workshop/ training programs for experts and non-experts;

Publications, website and Social Media:

Responsibility:

 

Take a lead role in promoting the communication needs of the EAAFP through:

 

Activities:

 

3. Take a lead role in preparation of EAAFP publications and EAAFP Newsletter including design, layout and preparation of text, printing and distribution, in conjunction with the Chief Executive who will review and approve drafts before publication occurs.

 

4. With other staff, collect information on important sites and species and post on the website, contact Task Forces, Working Groups and Single Species Action Plans and post latest news on the website

 

5. Take a lead role in development and management of EAAFP website, in conjunction with the Chief Executive who will review and approve drafts. (Note: any changes to text/content are to be endorsed by the Chief Executive.)

 

6. Facilitate and manage Social Networking Services (Facebook, Twitter and others) to provide the Partnership news and information in order to raise profile of and promote the Flyway and the Partnership.

Organizing Meetings and Representation:

Responsibility:

 

Organize meetings relevant to communications,including a lead role on MOPs

 

Activities:

 

7. Conduct planning and organizing conferences, meetings, exhibitions, social events and other activities to promote a better understanding of EAAFP among diverse stakeholder groups;

 

8. Arrange and take lead a range of relevant meetings for the Secretariat with the host country, Partners, key stakeholders, institutions and media, both local and international;

 

9. With other Secretariat staff, especially Program Officer, prepare the Meeting of Partners (MoP), act as a main contact point for the coordination of MoP, circulating information and Provide presentations, briefings, updates as required;

 

10. Assist the Chief Executive in representing the Secretariat;

Communication with Partners:

Responsibility:

 

Maintain regular communication with Partners

 

Activities:

 

11. As directed by the Chief Executive, assist with communication with the EAAFP Chair, Partners and associates;

 

12. Prepare, deliver and support presentations on assigned topics and agendas on behalf of EAAFP at Flyway-related meetings and events in Flyway countries and elsewhere;

 

13. Liaise with government contacts, IGO/ NGO groups, media, business and handle their enquiries;

Publicity

Responsibility:

 

Lead publicity development, including media

 

Activities:

 

14. Lead publicity development in order to raise awareness and delivery of EAAFP's work;

 

15. Establish contacts with governments and organizations in EAA Flyway to promote general interest and understanding of migratory bird issues;

 

16. Work with media to raise the profile of EAAFP and its activities;

 

Others

 

17. Manage and supervise interns in the Secretariat;

 

18. Respond to other tasks matched to your technical skills and working experience, as requested by the Chief Executive.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

The applicant should have good team skills and be able to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

M.A. Degree (or equivalent) in Communications, Public Relations, International Relations or a related field;

Minimum three years of progressively responsible experience in the field of communication, public relations and event management at regional or international level;

Fluency in both oral and written English is essential. Knowledge of any other languages in the Asia Pacific region would be an asset;

Excellent writing/drafting/editing skills at a professional level;

Proficiency in common computer applications (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, English versions) is essential;

Knowledge of relevant computer and media applications is essential to develop and manage EAAFP website and publications(desktop publishing and web management software - e.g. Adobe Design and Web Suite).

Duration of Contract:

This is a full time employment. The period of initial appointment will be for a two (2) year term with thepossibilityof renewal on the annual evaluation of work performance and continuity of funding.

Starting Date:

As soon as possible but at latest by Monday, 30 September 2013.

2. English Communication experience - Describe your history of English communication in a professional context

3. Working with a range of key stakeholders - Give examples of communication activities involving partners from different countries in which you played a significant role

4. Team work experience - Explain your experience and roles when working in a professional team

5. Knowledge and experience in working in the region - Describe your firsthand knowledge of working in the East Asian- Australasian region, preferably on environmental issues
