Hi! I'm Xiaoxi.
Seeing all the Cadlight 8G threads popping up made me want to journal my progress too.
This is my first exploration into the saltwater world. Of course, I decided to make life hard on myself by starting with a nano-tank.
Other than this tank, I have two more tanks in my life: a high-tech 30G planted tank and a low-tech planted Fluval Edge.
Now that introductions are out of the way, I'll get down to the specs/equipment I've used for this tank.
General Equipment:
Cadlight Mini 8G - Boy, this tank is pretty darned sweet. I loving the starfire glass and the lights aren't half bad!
Tunze 3152 ATO with a 5 Gallon DI water Reservoir - Been keeping my water level pretty stable!
50W Vis-Aqua Heater
Filtration-Related Equipment:
10lb CaribSea Arag-Alive Fiji Pink - Only ended up using about 7lb
6lb Dry Rock (CaribSea South Sea Dry Rock) - I broke the rock up into smaller peices & used epoxy to make my own structures.
1lb LR Rubble from Premium Aquatics - I ordered LR rubble, but much to my pleasant surprise I got an 1lb piece of Mando Rock instead. There was quite a bit of life on it, and it was encrusted with lots of coralline algae. So far, I've seen a few hitch-hikers: A mini brittle star(that may have died during the cycle), a bristleworm that bit me when I was handling the rock, and pods.
Acrylic DIY-Media Basket (goes into second chamber of the back chamber) - Since I couldn't find a media basket for the cadlight tanks, I took advantage of the Art Department's laser cutter and fabricated an acrylic media basket.
100mL Purigen
100mL Seachem Matrix - Meh, might as well try this out. High surface area & it also claims to have be able to house anaerobic bacteria for denitrification.
AquaEuro USA Nano Skimmer II - It's supposed to come in tomorrow from Marine Depot. I plan on sticking it in the first chamber, as I've removed the sponge that comes with the tank.
Quick Journal Summary:
November 9th: The Tank Was Set Up with Arag-Alive and CaribSea Base Rock
November 12th: LR "Rubble" from PA was added to aquarium
November 13th: Added Seachem Stability
Here's a FTS of the tank on Nov. 20th. (I've slightly rescaped it since then and promise I'll get more pictures up).
