The maiden edition of the much-advertised GTBank Fashion Weekend took place last weekend full of colour, class and panache

Six designers on the runway, 10 masterclass facilitators, several exhibitors, a craft village … and more attractions.

The maiden edition of the much-advertised GTBank Fashion Weekend took off with a bang last weekend at the new Landmark Event Centre in Oniru Estate, Lagos.

It would remain a weekend to remember as Lagosians, young and old, converged on the spacious grounds of the event venue to do their Christmas shopping on the exhibition grounds and also witness the runway show sponsored by the Guarantee Trust Bank.

The event is part of the Bank’s initiative to strengthen small businesses in key economic sectors through non-profit consumer focused fairs and capacity building initiatives that serve to boost their expertise, exposure and business growth.

The event brought together the most promising, talented and recognised fashion designers, brands and retail enterprises from across Nigeria and abroad to showcase latest fashion trends and products to a large and diverse audience of consumers, fashion aficionados and industry professionals.

The two-day event which witnessed masterclasses held by Okey Maduewesi, Sam Fine, Bijou Abiola, Tracy Reese, Caroline Rush, Dylan Jones, Claire Sulmers among others, each ended up with a runway show by both Nigerian and international designers namely Julian Mcdonalds, Lanre Da-Silva Ajayi, Taibo Barca Ejiro Amos Tafiri and David Tlale who closed the show in grand style with the usual drama he brings to the runway. He parades mostly pieces in white with details; fluid, chic structure while gold and silver accented hair clips and fascinators and gold dust makeup that made the models stand out.

Drawing loud applause, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, too had a mostly white collection laced with soft sensual details and intricate embellishments

The dramatic runway featured a curved circle with an elegant crest above it.

Top fashion and accessories brands also showed up for the two-day event with more pieces on sale for shoppers who filled up the exhibition stands.

Expressing their excitement about the show, many visitors and exhibitors said they could not wait to witness another edition of the colourful and entertaining event

It was a fashion weekend to remember as it finished off nicely on the second day.
