Samuel Ortom, the executive governor of Benue state, has said that the state will not tolerate gay activities.

He said this when he received the prelate of the Anglican Communion of Nigeria, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, at the old banquet hall in Makurdi, the state capital.

He said gay culture was against African culture and beliefs and was being promoted by the West.

The governor said that his administration would shun corruption and commended the Anglican Communion for its strong stance on homosexuality.

“Gay marriage is not a belief of Africans and the Church. The issue is a new development and is a reflection of the event of Sodom and Gomorrah, so we must reject it,”

Archbishop Okoh in his response urged the government to help in the fight to resist gay relationships in the state. He cited the fact that the three major religions in the country were against same sex relationships.

Meanwhile, Okoh has urged the federal government not to accept same sex marriage in the way that it is being legalised in other countries.
