The All Progressives Congress filed a petition to the National Human Rights Commission and the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The group representing Okrika and Ogu/Bolo LGAs, urged the bodies’ chairmen, Chidi Odinkalu and Attahiru Jega respectively, and IGP Suleiman Abba, to investigate the violence at the APC rally in Okrika, Rivers state, and to take adequate steps to prevent further attacks.
The extract from the petition reads:
“There’s a rumour that on March 28, we would not be allowed to vote for APC; they will come and arrest us, they will assassinate some people, that is why we have come to speak out and bring our protest before the human rights commission.
“Remember, in Calabar, they said, if you shout ‘Change’ stone them; in Okirika they said if you shout change, shoot them. So we are apprehensive and we felt that we need to bring this to the entire world for a stop to this nonsense, enough is enough.”
