N8bn Fraud: Six CBN Officials Remanded In Prison
A Federal High Court in Ibadan yesterday remanded six officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria and three others in Agodi prison for alleged conversion of mutilated N8 billion pending the hearing of their application for bail.
The accused persons were arraigned over allegations of conspiracy, diversion and stealing of N8bn mutilated currency which they ought to have destroyed.
At the sitting of the court yesterday which was presided over by Justice Ayo Emmanuel, the charges against the accused persons were alleged conversion of N10m mutilated currency of N1,000 denomination and not N80 billion that was earlier reported.

Suicide Bomber Kills 25 In Borno Abattoir
A suspected member of dreaded Boko Haram sect believed to be a suicide bomber sneaked into the Maiduguri Abattoir at Cattle Market (Kasuwan Shanu) killing 10 people while scores sustained injuries during the attack.
The incident took place on Tuesday at about 1:25pm when the market and the abattoir was at its peak with crowded traders and buyers.
This is coming less than 24 hours when a suicide bomber who attempted to sneak into Biu, one of the second largest town in southern part of the state was accosted by men of the civilian JTF at the entrance who were on routine check, but when the suicide bomber realized that he will be thoroughly interrogated when reaching the check-point, he decided to detonate the explosives he was carrying killing only himself.

Buhari Set To Name Chief Of Staff, Other Senior Aides Today
The shape and faces to the Muhammadu Buhari administration will begin to unfold today baring any last minute change of mind by the president, Vanguard has learnt. Among those to be named are the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF and personal staff of the president and the vice-president.
Yesterday, the president requested the Senate to approve 15 special advisers for him. Meanwhile, the delay in the announcement of senior officials of the new administration, it was learnt yesterday, flowed from the delay by the former officials of Goodluck Jonathan administration in forwarding their handover notes to the transition committee constituted by Buhari.
Sources close to the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, disclosed yesterday that the president would make known the senior officials of his government today. Besides the Chief of Staff and SGF, other officials to be named may include the Special Adviser to the National Assembly, Political Adviser among senior aides of the president.

27 Killed In Borno As Boko Hram Releases New Video Without Shekau
Boko Haram released a new video on Tuesday rejecting claims they have been routed in a four-nation offensive.
The new video does not show the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau.
An unidentified speaker, with his face obscured by a headscarf, spoke out in the video calling on Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger, who have been battling the Islamists, “the lying coalition partners”.
“Most of our territory is still under our control,” said the speaker in the 10-minute message which was posted on the video-sharing site YouTube.
The video bears the logo “Islamic State in West Africa” and follows the Nigerian militants’ pledge of allegiance in an audio message in March to the IS group, that has overrun large parts of Syria and Iraq.

FIFA Bribery Scandal Claims Blatter
FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has resigned amid the bribery scandal rocking the federation.
In an astonishing announcement at FIFA Headquarters in Zurich, Blatter revealed that he is walking away after 17 years as the most powerful man in football.
Blatter is currently under the microscope as the FBI investigates whether bribes were authorised by the world governing body.
In announcing his exit, the 79-year-old Swiss has called an extraordinary FIFA congress “as soon as possible” to elect a new president.
Speaking yesterday, Blatter said: “I have thoroughly considered and thought about my presidency and the last 40 years in my life. These years were closely related to FIFA and the wonderful sport of football. I appreciate and love FIFA more than anything else.

Buhari Likely To Head Oil Ministry In New Cabinet
There are speculations that President Muhammadu Buhari will keep the petroleum minister portfolio for himself in the new cabinet rather than trust anyone else with the ministry, which currently contributes over 80 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue.
Reuters quoted some close associates of the President as saying this on Tuesday.
One long-standing associate of Buhari, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the cabinet decision was still under wraps, said Nigeria’s oil sector was so dirty that nobody’s hands were clean enough to do the “surgical changes” needed.
Reuters also quoted another political associate as saying, “He will do it. It would be stupid to give that position to anyone else.”
The first source said Buhari had still not decided on his cabinet and had laughed off media speculation about the figures he would appoint, joking with friends as he read out a newspaper article that mentioned possible names: “They have picked my ministers for me! Have I even told you who I want?”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday requested the approval of the Senate to appoint 15 Special Advisers, who will assist him to carry out his functions as President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.
The President, in a letter addressed to Senate President, David Mark, said his request was in accordance with the Section 151 (1), (2), (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Police: Bomber Screamed Sai Buhari Before Detonating IED
The Police in Borno said five persons died when a suicide bomber attacked an abattoir in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Aderemi Opadokun, stated this when he spoke with journalists in Maiduguri.
Mr. Opadokun said the attack occurred at about 11.30 a.m.
“A suicide bomber, who was shouting “Sai Buhari”, and dancing in the abattoir, detonated Improvised Explosive Device strapped on his body when people had gathered around him.
“Five people, including himself, died, while eight others sustained injuries,” he said.
