Vice-President-elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan have attended a prayer service together on May 24, Sunday at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

A prayer service, which theme is “Give Thanks in all Circumstances”, is a part of 2015 Presidential Inauguration service for the Nigerian Christian community.



The ecumenical inauguration service at the National Christian Centre also folded as a Presidential Thanksgiving service for the leaving President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience, who was in attendance with some members of his cabinet.

The venue was crowded to capacity as service was well attended.



Representatives of most Christian denominations, women groups, communities, voluntary organisations and students on behalf of many educational institutions in the Federal Capital Territory were present at the event.



The choir of the host organization, the Christian Association of Nigeria reduced several popular and interesting Christian songs that amused the audience so also the Bayelsa State Choir and the Port Harcourt Men’s Ensemble.

Out-going Senate President, David Mark took the first reading at the service taken from Isaiah 62: 1-7, while the second reading was taken by Osinbajo from the gospel according to Luke 17: 11-19.

In his address at the service, Nicholas Okoh, the Primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, asked Nigerians not to disappoint no matter the state of affairs in the nation, but to daily work to count their blessings and give thanks to God.

He advised Nigerians to support the incoming Muhammadu Buhari administration and to let it time to put in place the changes and prosperity they would want to see.

Prayers were provided by select Christian churches for the incoming and outgoing leaders and their families as well as the different arms of administration.

Also present at the service were the wife of the Vice President-elect, Dolapo Osinbajo; National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun; former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon; Secretary to Federal Government, Pius Anyim; and a number of ministers of the government. Sam Nda-Isaiah, an APC stalwart and Ayo Oritsejafor, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), were also present.

Meanwhile, the inauguration activities kicked off on Friday, May 22, at the national mosque in Abuja.

The president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, was represented by former vice president Atiku Abubakar in Jumat prayers.
