We go to the movies a whole freaking lot. In fact, I’d venture to say that going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do. Something about sitting in a dark theater, experiencing something spectacular, surrounded by strangers really just screams TOTALLY WORTH $12! I love that for that two hours, all of my attention is focused solely on taking it all in. It’s a welcome escape.
And so, of the 11 movies currently playing at my local theater, I’ve seen 5. Told ya, I love the movies.
Let it also be known that I would be the worlds worst movie critic. Why, you ask? Because I enjoy almost every movie I see (you guys, I saw Gigli in theaters and I didn’t hate it. Glitter too.) and I nearly always walk out of the theater happy and satisfied with the experience.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
N and I saw this the Thursday night it came out, 10pm showing. If there’s one thing that celebrates being young and childless, it’s seeing a late night movie on a week night. Every once in a while, I just love it.
So the movie. Let’s kick this off my mentioning that of the semi-crowded theater, I was one of maybe a dozen women. All. Dudes. So it’s probably a dude movie. I saw X-Men: First Class just a few weeks ago for the first time and really loved it (is J.Law bad in anything? Ah, nope).
This movie had a really interesting plot. Who thinks of this stuff? Anything with time travel really gets me going so sending Wolverine back in time to convince the young version of his friends to change the future really sold me. Mind = Blown. I loved this.
I should also note that I’ve never seen any other X-Men movies except the one (none of the originals with Hallie Berry etc. and none of the Wolverine movies) and this movie was still good and still made sense.
N’s Review: Strongest movie we’ve seen so far this season. Interesting concept. Characters were really fleshed out. Favorite movie thus far.

Godzilla
A spectacular summer blockbuster. The graphics were phenomenal. Cool and terrifying storyline of a dormant monster causing a nuclear meltdown. Lacked character development but I was so busy being amazed that I didn’t really notice. Also, Elizabeth Olsen is in this which somehow I didn’t realize.
N’s Review: Exactly what you expect it to be, a big monster movie. They increased the tension during the movie by only showing Godzilla a limited amount. Human characters were pretty bland but it didn’t detract from the movie too much.

Neighbors
If you enjoy physical humor, you’ll probably like this movie. The chemistry between Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen is believable and charming (I know, surprised me too). Zac Efron has his shirt off a lot (round of applause). This had definite funny moments. And a couple horrifying moments (ahem, I was not expecting any breastfeeding jokes and the one that was there was horrifying. Mom’s out there, um, can that happen?!).
N’s Review: Good but not great. Relied on slap stick and awkward comedy too much.

The Amazing Spider-man 2
I absolutely adored The Amazing Spider-man so I was beyond excited to see The Amazing Spider-man 2. The storyline is a bit different from the Toby McGuire version of the early 00′s, with Gwen Stacy playing a major role. I love that they play in to the romance plot line and give the mushy audience members (like myself) something to awww over. Andrew Garfield is so damn loveable as the always conflicted, emotional guy.
I do think that having two different villain situations going on was a bit distracting. They should have picked one and developed it more. All that was worth it for a little Gwen and Peter romance. Although I can’t help but resent Gwen Stacy a little. After all she’s a big part of the reason I got bangs.
Semi-SPOILER alert: THAT ENDING?! Slayed me.
N’s Review: Good when I saw it but forgettable after the fact. I liked that they stayed true to the original comic story.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
I really enjoyed the first Captain America movie and am a big fan of all of the Marvel movies. I liked this movie. Anytime you make the Nazi’s (well, Hydra, a fictional sub-group of the Nazi’s) the bad guys, it’s something audiences can get behind immediately. Scarlett Johansson kind of rubs me the wrong way in this role but the villain was pretty solid and the graphics were spot on.
N’s Review: Good but not noteworthy. Kind of blurs together with the other comic book superhero movies. I liked the villain and the characters.

The Fault in Our Stars – I cry over the trailer every time I watch it (approximately every 3 days). Bringing tissues and will be seeing it the day it comes out. I’m bracing myself for the sweet pain of this movie. Break my heart, John Green. I love you for it.
The Edge of Tomorrow - I love sci-fi. I don’t love Tom Cruise. I think Emily Blunt will make up for that. Plus – aliens!

22 Jump Street – I had very low expectations going in to 21 Jump Street and was BLOWN AWAY by how effing hilarious it was. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard in a movie. Now they’re off to college? Can’t wait.

Begin Again - This flick starring Keira Knightly and Mark Ruffalo looks sweet. There’s a 0% chance I’ll be able to convince N to see it with me so I’ll probably fly solo.

Sex Tape - Jason Segal with Cameron Diaz. Try not to laugh during this trailer. I dare you. What is the cloud!? Where is it!? <- N and I have had this exact conversation.
Happy Christmas – Anna Kendrick and Lena Dunham? Together? In a movie? Sign me up. Plus it’s from the director of Drinking Buddies, which I loved.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Another sure to be gem from the Marvel universe. I have no idea what this is about but there is a raccoon superhero. Hell. Yes.
What if – Daniel Radcliff and Adam Driver. From the minute long clip I saw, it looks hipster and charming.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – N will force me to see this. I will undoubtably complain a bit (probably because my Mom never let us watch this as kids because it was “too violent”) and then love it anyway.
Into the Storm – Twister 2! Okay not really. But the trailer for this is effing terrifying. No seriously, go watch it.

The Giver - Before the Hunger Games, before Divergent, there was The Giver. The original YA dystopian fiction. I think it’ll get a re-read before I see the movie. The movie trailer concerns me a bit because it looks like they basically borrowed props and graphics straight from the Hunger Games. Fingers crossed it sticks to the book.
