In the lead up to this year’s NACUE Society Awards we’ll be profiling each of the shortlisted individuals or societies with some of the reasons why they were nominated. Today it’s our final shortlist and perhaps the most coveted award of them all – The Founder’s Award for President of the Year.

This award recognises enterprise society Presidents who have gone above and beyond for their society and the wider student enterprise movement. This year’s shortlisted Presidents are:

Gabby Cartwright – Kingston Entrepreneurs

Gabby strives to deliver enterprise and entrepreneurship to the masses. During her year in charge, membership of Kingston Entrepreneurs has doubled! She also visited Kingston College to bring enterprise to a new audience. To keep the society sustainable, Gabby secured funding from Kingston Business School, which has enabled the society to attend four external events. She also held meetings with Kingston Chamber of Commerce to promote the society and get recognised amongst the local business community.

Samantha Ball – Brookes Entrepreneurs

Samantha has been a whirlwind of activity this year. As well as modelling and other commitments she has established a new brand for Brookes Entrepreneurs that goes well beyond the University. She was actively involved in organising the international conference ‘Oxford Inspires’, and the success of this put Brookes Entrepreneurs on the map. She encourages regular collaborations with Oxford Entrepreneurs (Oxford University) and, thanks to her efforts, they now meet for regular social events that provide networking opportunities between the two universities.

Alex Deung – Entrepreneurs Durham

Entrepreneurs Durham have been incredibly busy this year and a lot of this is down to the leadership of Alex. He oversees Entrepreneurs Durham’s three main projects: the Moneythink mentoring scheme, Kickstart Weekend, and their 1832 beer company, alongside many other events. Always open to new opportunities, he has grown to be a confident and warm leader and comes well respected by his executive, society members and Durham University staff.
