Until you become engaged, thank you notes are what your mom forced you to write to your grandparents when you were little. You’ll quickly become reacquainted with thank you letters after having to write notes for the hundreds of wedding gifts received from family and friends (hand cramp, anyone?).

It’s easy for thank you note-writing to get monotonous, or to draw a creative blank after the first 25 or so. Here are just a few ways to make the process seem a little less dull:

* Personalize your thank you note design: Instead of generic “thank you” stationary you can get at the supermarket, consider investing in notes designed with your monogrammed initials or wedding date. Or, use your engagement photos to put your friendly faces on the front of your note card.

* Make your response collaborative: Use your thank you note to tell the person not only how you’ll use the gift, but how you can use the gift together. For example, if it’s a pizza stone, invite them over for a future pizza date night.

* Thank them for more than the gift: If the gift giver was someone who helped you with part of your wedding or planning, thank them for their contribution or presence. Or, tell them how they helped shape or inspire you (for example, if you admire the way they approach their own marriage).

* Share a memory: Reminisce about a past memory that reminds the person how much you appreciate their relationship. Or, reflect on a favorite memory from your wedding that’s relevant (like how entertaining their dance moves were!)

* Focus on what’s going on in their lives: It’s easy to get so caught up in the wedding planning process that you neglect what’s going on in your guests’ lives. Use your thank you note as an opportunity to let your guest(s) know that you care about their own major life events.

* Include a fun token: Slip an engagement or wedding photo into your thank you note before you send it. Or, box up some candy or something homemade to ship with your thank you.

Happy planning!
