Fallbrook flower farmers Jason and Danielle Kendall, owners of the Kendall Farms (San Diego County), will host an al fresco dinner on their flower farm, amidst rows of flowers and dramatic views of hills and canyons.  The October 10 dinner is part of a 10-city dinner tour for Certified American Grown farmers who believe that the flowers at the center of the table should be as fresh, local and sustainable as the food on your plate.

The inaugural pop-up dinner series puts a floral twist on the farm-to-fork concept, making locally grown flowers the hot topic of the evening’s discussion, while also highlighting the locally grown food and locally produced wine and beer purveyors.

The American Grown Field to Vase Dinner Tour is a series of communal dining experiences taking place at flower farms across the country. Each gathering features a seasonal, four-course “farm to table” style meal served at a table decorated with uncommonly beautiful American Grown flowers. Guests have rare access at each unique venue to meet and converse with the host flower farmer, a featured floral designer and a farm-to-table chef.

The Wall Street Journal recently highlighted the dinner tour as #44 on their list of Top 50 things to do this summer and Food & Wine Magazine called these dinners the “ultimate al fresco dinner party.”

“The Field to Vase Dinner Tour puts a face on the flowers, introducing the farmers and highlighting why it is so important that flowers at the center of the table be as fresh, local and sustainable as the food on your plate. That’s a powerful experience,” said Kasey Cronquist, administrator of the Certified American Grown brand.

Prior to the dinner, participants will enjoy a private tour of Kendall Farms led by flower farmer Jason Kendall. They will be treated to a beautiful custom floral installation with Fallbrook-grown flowers, created by guest floral designer Christina Stembel of Farmgirl Flowers, with locations in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Attendees will then savor local fare served family style at farm tables placed among the flowers. Note: the guest chef has not yet been named.

The Field to Vase Dinner Tour continues throughout 2015, taking place across the country at unique destinations – American flower farms in both urban and rural settings. Each event introduces guests to the art and science of flower farming. The series treats locavores and flower fans alike to a truly exceptional dining experience with seasonal, local and sustainable American Grown flowers at the center of the table and conversation.

After attending a 2014 Field To Vase Dinner at Kitayama Brothers Farms in Watsonville, California, Kathy Brenzel, Sunset magazine’s senior garden editor, said the event was something she will never forget.  “A delicious meal plus sumptuous, sustainable-grown blooms, plus caring farmers equals a memorable evening.”

Attendees at each private flower farm experience will bring home new insights and a heightened understanding of the American floral landscape, symbolized by a local floral memento and gift bag from their visit.
