Hey lovelies, getting in lots of sun so far this summer? I sure am, and loving every minute of it! Well except when I see the number all that sunshine and heat has done on my skin! Unfortunately as good as Vitamin D is for the mind and body, the skin can pay a hefty price for it. Obviously sunscreen is key to warding off a lot of that too-much-sun skin, but there are some other things you can do as well to really bring back life to your skin!

For me, my biggest issue is the sun spots that pop up on my face (welcome to the 30s!). One of the best ways to help keep them at bay and to get rid of them quickly when they do start popping up (Again wearing your sunscreen religiously is key here) is a really good exfoliating scrub. A good scrub helps to remove the dead (sun spotted) layer of the skin, and reveal the younger, more youthful skin underneath. This is good for all types of anti-aging such as diminishing fine lines and wrinkles as well. Doing a weekly scrub is a necessity and this time of year, I do it 2-3 times a week. A Good scrub will not only reveal younger looking skin, but it will also leave the skin looking radiant too, and will give it a really nice glow as well!

The problem with scrubs is they can be too harsh, and they can also be very drying. I’ve tried lots of store-bought scrubs over the years and while there are a few really good ones out there, more often than not, they tend to be a bit too harsh on the skin and drying to my already super dry skin as well.

I got into creating DIY beauty products a while back for this very reason! I feel that using my own recipes give me better results, and with aromatherapy becoming widespread now, it’s really easy to find great essential oils to add to these beauty recipes that also provide some really amazing benefits to the skin as well, besides just providing a lovely scent for your beauty concoction. One of my favorite essential oils, Eucalyptus, is really great for calming the skin as well, especially after it’s been in the sun, and is great for those suffering from skin ailments such as eczema and rosacea too, and is great for all skin types including those with sensitive skin!

So using my favorite skin-calming essential oil, Eucalyptus, I created a very simple DIY face and body moisturizing, exfoliating Sugar Scrub.

DIY After- Sun Skin Soothing Sugar Scrub Recipe:

What you will need:

Sugar

Nature’s Bounty® Sweet Almond Oil (You can also use olive oil)

Eucalyptus Essential Oil. My personal favorite is from Earthly Elements™

Chamomile Essential Oil

Grapefruit Essential Oil

Directions:

Add sugar to a bowl. You can add as little or as much as you like here, depending on if you want a scrub for face or body. You can also store extra for additional uses if you make too much or would like more for later.

Add enough almond oil to the sugar to create a moisturizing consistency, but not so much that it’s greasy. You want to be able to roll the sugar in between fingers for a nice rough, but smooth feel  (About 2 per 1/2 cup of sugar).

Add 5-7 drops of each essential oil to the bowl of sugar – eucalyptus, chamomile, and grapefruit.

Once done, smooth onto face and body and rinse with water. You will have super soft skin that looks much more vibrant and youthful too!

I love using this scrub because the essential oils used in it are great for soothing skin. Eucalyptus is known to cool, calm, and balance the skin and body. Chamomile is also very calming on the skin (and to the nervous system as well!) and is very nurturing and soothing too. Grapefruit provides a very nice tangy, clean, refreshing feel, to leave skin feeling not only relaxed and calmed, but clean and rejuvenated as well!

Hope you enjoy this scrub! Let me know in the comments your experience with it or any DIY beauty scrubs you use and love!

Also, be sure to shop the Earthly Elements Aromatherapy and Essential Oils at Walmart.
