Still gushing over the Council of Fashion Designers of America‘s (CFDA) awards ceremony last week – one of the most talked about fashion events of the year so far (probably due to Rihanna’s see-through dress, which you can read about, here) – we at SPICE are now looking a little closer at the stars who attended, and mulling over the makeup looks we loved most of the night.

But see below our top 3 beauty trends that occurred at the event, as well as a few things you’ll need to recreate them. Enjoy;

Summer Brights

Solange Knowles vamped up her famously natural look with a bright pink lip and thick, bouncy curls to play down her shimmery, silver dress. Hot on her heels though was Jennifer Hudson, who went with a reddish-orange lip to complement her edgy pixie cut, plus Lupita Nyong’o, who put her own spin on the trend by bringing back 70s-inspired bright blue eyeshadow, toned down with a maroon pout.

To brighten up your summer look, we at SPICE recommend you try the “Rouge in Love” lipstick by Lancôme, or a vivid pink matte version from Illamasqua. For a Lupita-esque look with a throwback nod to the 70s, invest in the “Ombre Minerale” eyeshadow in a subtle slate blue from Clarins, or Barry M‘s “Dazzle Dust” in electric blue, if you’re brave enough.

Smoky Eyes

Shifting all the focus to her dress, Rihanna’s fuss-free look featured sultry smoky eyes and nude glossy lips, with her hair neatly tucked under a crystal headscarf. And supermodel Iman went down a similar route, this time pulling her long locks away from her face for a modern, sophisticated take, highlighting her dark, smoky eyeshadow makeup look.

To recreate the trend, you will need a matte black or brown eyeshadow, mascara and kohl liner. Blogger favourites include Naked and Naked2 palettes from Urban Decay, which contain a wide enough range of neutral colours to pull this off on any complexion, and we at SPICE recommend kohl liners from MAC Comsetics and Rimmel London’s “Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara” in black, to give an uber polished finish.

Neutral, Natural Shades

Supermodels Chanel Iman and Naomi Campbell kept it simple in neutral shades for the CFDAs, wearing glowing skin and highlighting their features effortlessly.
