The Myrtle Beach Marathon draws huge crowds to Myrtle Beach in February.

Every year the Myrtle Beach Marathon brings thousands of visitors to the Grand Strand. Make sure you take advantage of this month’s exciting schedule of events as businesses are gearing up for Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon visitors by planning events for the entire family! While you’re here, don’t forget to check out one of many Super Bowl, Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Month Long Events

Locals Appreciation Day returns to WonderWorks! Visit the areas only “upside down” science exploration center and enjoy over 100 hands-on science activities. Receive discounted admission rates with a local ID, valid for residents of Horry, Georgetown and Brunswick counties.

Families with children are invited to attend Free Story Time at Chapin Memorial Library. Activities include stories, flannelboards, songs, crafts and more. Story times and age groups are as follows: Babies (4 - 18 mos) Tues. 10:30 a.m., Toddlers (2 yrs) Wed. 11 a.m., Preschool (3- 5 yrs) Thurs. and Fri. 11 a.m., Homeschoolers (rising kindergarten and up) Wed. 2:30 p.m.

Visit The Children’s Museum of South Carolina at 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday for Alphabet Soup, Thursday for Animal Encounters and Friday for Super Science. Alphabet Soup includes story telling, Animal Encounters allows children to safely interact with live animals and participate in animal themed activities and Super Science provides an exciting opportunity to complete science experiments! Museum admission applies.

Visit The Franklin Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday to view Jack Mitchell’s “Icons & Idols: A Photographer’s Chronicle of the Arts, 1960-1995” and Philip Mullen’s “Mullen: 2009-2012”.  Mitchell’s Icons & Idols features 137 masterfully printed photographs collected over a 35 year period in New York. Mullen’s self entitled display features a collection of vibrant multi-dimensional works of art.

Tommy Bahama hosts “Snowbird Social Lunch & A Movie” every Tuesday at 12 p.m. Enjoy an appetizer, entrée and dessert for $15. Show your receipt at Grand 14 Cinema and enjoy discounted movie tickets, $4.50 for any movie before 6 p.m.

Chapin Memorial Library offers knitting and crochet classes every Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the first floor meeting room. Bring supplies and learn the basics of knitting and crochet. Volunteers and instructors are encouraged to attend.

Tilted Kilt at Broadway at the Beach offers Happy Hour food and drink specials from 4 to 6 p.m. daily throughout the month of Feb.

Liberty Steakhouse & Brewery at Broadway at the Beach has extended their Happy Hour through the month of Feb. Socialize with friends and enjoy specials from 4 to 8 p.m. daily.

Visit the first floor meeting room in Chapin Memorial Library from 2 to 6 p.m. for the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale. Browse through a variety of deeply discounted library titles and gently used books. Proceeds to benefit Chapin Memorial Library.

Feb. 2, 2013

This is the final day to visit the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale at Chapin Memorial Library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the first floor meeting room. Proceeds to benefit Chapin Memorial Library.

Students from North Myrtle Beach High School showcase their musical talent at Hard Rock Cafe’s Skoolhouse Rock. This event is open to the public and begins at 9 p.m. Arrive early and grab a bite to eat before the show begins!

Sports enthusiasts are invited to attend the UFC 156 Pay Per View Event at Original Shuckers Raw Bar at Broadway at the Beach beginning at 10 p.m.

The Long Bay Symphony presents Mad-Hatters Mania. Enjoy an Alice in Wonderland themed adventure! The evening features dinner, dancing and more. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Create an “outrageous” handmade hat for a chance to win prizes! Tickets are required. $75 per person.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday! Celebrate with your friends at Senor Frogs in Broadway at the Beach. Super Bowl Specials include buy one get one appetizers and more. Dancing, dining and a Super Bowl Celebration await you.

It’s the Super Sunday (Super Bowl) Bash at Broadway Louie’s! Doors open at noon and the party begins at 3 p.m. with “tailgate” specials including half price burgers and $8 pizzas. The Super Bowl watch party begins at 5 p.m. with the Bud Light and Absolut Girls! Prizes and giveaways include an iPad3, Budweiser Tailgate Package, Pepsi Fan of the Game Prize Pack and more.

The Kangaroo Pouch at Market Common invites mothers to attend Moms Sip & Shop from 4 to 7 p.m. Learn about car seat safety, register for a chance to win a Britax car seat, visit with Mud Pie representatives, view the Mud Pie Spring Collection, enjoy Mocktails, Cocktails, Hors d’oeuvres and more!

Castano’s Italian Steakhouse at Barefoot Landing presents the Just for Fun Fashion Show. Join fellow fashionistas for a night of women’s and children’s fashion, hair, makeup trends, modeling and more! The event begins at 6 p.m. with a discounted menu including appetizers, drinks, martinis and drafts. Raffle prizes are provided by local businesses with proceeds to benefit the North Myrtle Beach High School Teen Angel Program. Fashion show begins at 7 p.m. Seating is limited.

The “Let’s Talk About It” 2013 lecture and educational series offers a unique glimpse of the Civil War era. “Making Sense of the Civil War, 1861-1865” begins at 10 a.m. with coffee and fellowship followed by a presentation on the American Civil War at 10:30 a.m.

The House of Blues and WKZQ 96.1 presents the ninth annual Flogging Molly Green 17 Tour! Doors open at 7 p.m., concert begins at 8 p.m. Meet the band at the official Flogging Molly Afterparty. Enjoy drink specials, live performances by Shark Legs and more. Tickets are required.

The Senior Dance Series returns to the Base Recreation Center. Tickets are $7 the week of the dance. Dances are from 7 to 10 p.m.

Ripley’s Aquarium cordially invites fathers and daughters to the second annual Father Daughter Dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Uncles, grandfathers, fathers, etc. are welcome to attend this semi-formal dance with their special girl. The evening includes refreshments, photographs, dessert and more. Tickets are required.

The C&E Gun Show arrives at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Safely view a variety of firearms, ammunition, knives and related merchandise. Admission is $8 for adults; children 12 and under are admitted free with paying adult.

Seniors are invited to enjoy a night of music, dancing and socializing at The Seniors Dance. The dance will be held at the Surfside Beach Civic Center from 7 to 10 p.m.

Dick’s Last Resort presents the Mardi Gras Parade! Catch candy, beads and trinkets as the parade winds through Barefoot Landing and ends at Dick’s Last Resort with a Mardi Gras party. The parade begins at 5 p.m. near Greg Norman.

Get ready to party! Celebrate Mardi Gras in style at Senor Frogs. Dancing, food and drink specials will be available throughout the evening.

The 2013 Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon kicks off with the Spirit Airlines Runner’s Expo from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Marathon sponsors and vendors will be on hand with a variety of official marathon merchandise. This event is free and open to the public. $3 parking fees apply.

The Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon continues on the Grand Strand. The Myrtle Beach Runner’s Expo is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Marathon sponsors, vendors and official marathon merchandise will be available. The Expo is open to the public and free of charge. $3 parking fee applies. The Ripley’s Aquarium Family Fun Run is from 5:30 to 6 p.m., the Junior Post Race Party is from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ripley’s Aquarium and the 5k Marathon is from 7 to 8 p.m. For additional marathon information visit mbmarathon.com.

The official Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon begins! Opening ceremonies start at 6:15 a.m. Wheelchair and crankchair racers meet at 6:25 a.m. for an early start. The marathon begins at 6:30 a.m. with finish line presentations at 10:30 a.m. The Bi-Lo Myrtle Beach Marathon ends at 2:30 p.m. The Dasani 1/2 Marathon is from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the 1/2 awards presentation is at 9:30 a.m. The House of Blues Post Race Party is from 5 to 7 p.m. For additional marathon information visit mbmarathon.com.

The 12th Annual KidzTime Festival returns to Broadway at the Beach! Families are encouraged to attend a day filled with games, live performances, fire engine rides, farm animal exhibits, a visit from Marvel Comic’s Iron Man sponsored by Time Warner Cable and more! The fun begins at 11 a.m. and ends with a fireworks extravaganza at 8 p.m. over Lake Broadway.

Crafters are invited to ‘Sew a Sweetgrass Basket’ with Mt. Pleasant basket weaver, Ms. Vera Manigault. This hands-on demonstration includes a discussion on the history of basket making. Space is limited. Contact Ultimate Gullah for location and class information.

Wheelright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University is home to the Grand Strand Choir Challenge. Support local choirs as they compete for a variety of prizes. Wave 104.1 Scott Mann and WMBF News Paula Caruso host the challenge. Tickets are required.

The Myrtle Beach Convention Center is home to the 10th Annual Palmetto Regional FIRST Robotics Competition. 1200 students from 66 high school teams across 12 states compete in a “pit style” robotics, engineering and technology competition!
