T.J. Lux

T.J. Lux, coach of the year

T.J. Lux of Merrillville has been chosen as a Bob King Coach of the Year by his peers in the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

Lux has guided Merrillville to a 22-2 record, including the Duneland Conference championship. Lux, a 1995 Merrillville graduate and a 2000 Northern Illinois graduate, has an 82-38 record in five seasons with the Pirates. His tenure has included two sectional titles, one regional crown and two conference championships.

Terry Jimenez, VP and CFO, Tribune Publishing Co.

The board of directors of Tribune Publishing Co. has appointed Terry Jimenez as executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Prior to joining the company, Jimenez was a partner for IBM’s Global Business Services (since 2012). Before that, he worked as a consultant for Wrapports LLC , was president and COO/CFO of Newsday Media Group, was publisher of am New York and served in various roles at Tribune Media Co.

Jimenez holds a B.S. in accountancy from Northern Illinois University and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.



William Tate

William Tate elected to National Academy of Education

The National Academy of Education has elected William F. Tate as a new member.

Members are elected based on their outstanding scholarship on the topic of education. The academy, founded in 1965, now has 199 U.S. members and 11 foreign associates.

Tate is the Edward Mallinckrodt Distinguished University Professor in Arts and Sciences at Washington University. He also serves as dean of the graduate school and vice provost for graduate education.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northern Illinois University, holds a master’s degree in mathematical sciences education from the University of Texas at Dallas and a doctorate in mathematics education from the University of Maryland, College Park.  In 2011, Tate added a master’s degree in psychiatric epidemiology from the Washington University School of Medicine.



Gregory Day

Gregory Day to perform at Carnegie Hall

Gregory Day, artistic director of the Lincoln-Way Area Chorale (based in New Lenox, Ill.), has been invited to perform by Distinguished Concerts International New York in “Messiah” at Carnegie Hall with other singers from around the world and a 125-piece orchestra.

A retired choral music teacher, Day was hired as LWAC artistic director in 2012. He has taught at Geneseo High School and AlWood High School (which featured state championship choirs) and retired from Flossmoor Junior High School. He now teaches voice and piano privately. In 2014, he was inducted into the International Symposium of Choral Directors and Choral Composers.

At Augustana College, he studied choral conducting and earned a master’s degree in music education from Northern Illinois University. His postgraduate studies focused on vocal pedagogy and vocal production at the University of Iowa, Indiana University and Columbia University in New York.

Joshua Schumacher, principal of Hoffman Estates High

Joshua Schumacher has been named principal at Hoffman Estates High School, effective July 1.

Schumacher, an assistant principal at the school for the past five years, began his teaching career in 2002 as a biology and physical science teacher at Hoffman Estates High School.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biological science from Illinois State University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Olivet Nazarene University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University.

Matthew Bollinger, president of BankORION

Matthew Bollinger has been promoted to president of BankORION.

Bollinger, who had been BankORION’s executive vice president, joined the bank in 2014. He was also appointed to the board of directors at the company’s 125th annual meeting recently.

Previously, he was a partner in Wipfli LLP’s financial institutions practice, where he worked with community banks specializing in providing financial statement audits, loan reviews, merger and acquisition assistance, and capital planning.

He is a CPA and a graduate of Northern Illinois University and the University of Illinois.

Richard Katschke, chief historian and VP of communications

Richard Katschke has been named chief historian and senior vice president of communications for the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Katschke has served as associate vice president of public affairs since 2002 after joining MCW in 1985 as director of public affairs.

In 2015, he received MCW’s Distinguished Service Award, the highest faculty or staff honor, and is one of only four MCW staff members to receive the recognition.

Katschke has more than 40 years of experience in public relations, primarily in higher education and healthcare. Before joining MCW, he held public relations positions with the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, Northeastern Illinois University, Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago and OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in both communications and performing arts from Northeastern Illinois University. He is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America.

Brian Dowd, board of directors, EXOR

With PartnerRe Ltd.’s acquisition of the investment company EXOR, Brian Dowd has been announced as one of its board members.

Dowd was a member of the Office of the Chairman, focusing on underwriting-related matters, including oversight of ACE Group’s product boards, general underwriting disciplines of the company’s profit centers and special strategic projects.

He previously held positions at ACE from 1997 until his appointment in 2006 as chairman of the company’s insurance in the North America business segment. He also held the role of vice chairman of ACE Limited from 2009 until his retirement in 2015. Prior to that, he held underwriting positions at Arkwright Mutual Insurance Co. for seven years.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from NIU, as well as the professional designation of a chartered property casualty underwriter.

Peter Agrimson, co-portfolio manager, Nuveen

Nuveen Investments, a leading global provider of investment services to individual investors, has promoted Peter Agrimson to an expanded role as co-portfolio manager for the Nuveen Multi-Market Income Fund.

In addition to his new role, he is co-manager for Nuveen Asset Management’s Short Term Bond product. He is also responsible for trading securities and performs credit analysis and surveillance for the firm’s mortgage-backed securities and asset-backed securities portfolios.

Prior to joining the firm in 2008, he served as a credit analyst at Long Lake Partners, where he did credit analysis for the company’s structured products portfolio.

Agrimson earned a B.S. in finance from Northern Illinois University. He holds the chartered financial analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Cheryl Johnson

Cheryl Johnson, VP, Textron, and food bank director

Cheryl Johnson has been appointed to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank board of directors.

Johnson serves as executive vice president of human resources at Textron Inc. and holds a B.S. in operations management and an MBA from Northern Illinois University.

Amy Carnie

Amy Carnie, principal in Nebraska

Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Neb., has hired Amy Carnie as principal of Hill Elementary School.

Carnie has been associate principal at Schoo Middle School since 2012 and previously served as the school’s instructional coordinator.

She has master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Melissa Johnson

Melissa Johnson, assistant branch officer, Alpine Bank

Melissa Johnson has been promoted to assistant branch officer in the retail division of Alpine Bank in Rockford and will oversee the Highcrest location.

The Rockford native began her Alpine career as a seasonal teller in 2007 and holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Northern Illinois University.

Lynsey Welch, partner, Heyl Royster

Lynsey Welch has become a partner at the Rockford law office of Heyl Royster.

Welch, a graduate of the NIU College of Law, handles cases in Rockford, Chicago, Ottawa, New Lenox, Wheaton and Waukegan and has authored a variety of articles on workers’ compensation law and appeals.

Mark Booth, chief business officer, Probiodrug

Probiodrug AG, a German biopharmaceutical company developing therapeutic solutions to treat Alzheimer’s disease, has hired Mark Booth as chief business officer and a member of the management board.

With more than 30 years of biopharmaceutical experience, Booth most recently served as the chief commercial officer at Orexigen Therapeutics Inc., where he played a leadership role in business development and investor relations.

He also served as president of Takeda Pharmaceuticals for North America and was senior vice president and general manager at Immunex Corp. Before that, he was at Abbott Laboratories, where he held multiple positons, including division vice president and general manager for the anti-infective franchise.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Northern Illinois University and an MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.

Rajnish Nath

Rajnish Nath, CEO, Sogeti USA

Rajnish Nath has been promoted to CEO at Sogeti USA, headquartered in Dayton, Ohio.

Prior to his appointment, Nath served as the regional vice president of Sogeti, overseeing its Heartland region. Starting with Sogeti as a college graduate hire, Nath has worked his entire career at Sogeti and has generated an impressive portfolio of achievements. He first served as a consultant in 1996, which led to a stream of promotions and increases in responsibility.

He holds a master’s degree in computer science from Northern Illinois University and an MBA in strategy, marketing, entrepreneurship and healthcare from Northwestern University.

Sarah Lindstrom, region president, Santander Bank

Santander Bank of Boston has appointed Sarah Lindstrom as region president for the bank’s southern and western New England region.

In her new role, Lindstrom is accountable for operations and sales at more than 140 branches in Rhode Island, the Hartford area, southeastern and central Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.

She joins Santander from JPMorgan Chase, where she led 10 districts and more than 100 branches as senior vice president, market manager for the north Los Angeles region and leader for the Midwest in-store market in the Chicago metropolitan area and state of Michigan.

She has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Northern Illinois University.

Tina Cuppini, Golden Apple recipient

Tina Cuppini, a special education teacher at Ledgewood School in Roscoe, Ill., is among five northern Illinois teachers who will be honored for excellence in education during the Golden Apple Banquet, set for May 6 in Rockford.

Cuppini is a special education teacher for kindergarten and first-grade students and has six years of teaching experience. She received a bachelor’s degree in education with a learning behavioral specialist I designation from Northern Illinois University.

Golden Apple recipients are recognized for making a difference in their communities through their commitment to educational excellence.

Matthew Shaw, founding partner, Shaw Family Law

Matthew G. Shaw is the founding partner of Shaw Family Law P.C., which recently opened in St. Charles, Ill.

Shaw, a divorce Lawyer, brings 30 years of legal experience to his family law practice. He was formerly a founding partner at the law firm of Shaw, Jacobs, Goostree & Associates.

He graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Illinois College and earned his J.D. from NIU’s College of Law.

The Leading Lawyers Network named Shaw a leading west suburban lawyer in 2013-2014.
