James Radous

James J. Radous III has been named president of UniCarriers Americas Corp. in Marengo, Ill., and is responsible for the operational and financial management of UCA and its subsidiaries and affiliates.

Radous has served as president of UCA’s retail operations, vice president of sales and marketing operations and executive vice president of sales, Americas.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Northern Illinois University and his master’s degree in business administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

Kristin Hoffman joins law firm

The Aurora personal injury and commercial litigation firm of Kinnally Flaherty Krentz Loran Hodge & Masur P.C. has hired Kristin A. Hoffman (B.S. history, ‘12) as an associate attorney.

Hoffman, a lifelong resident of the Fox Valley, was raised in Batavia, where her father has practiced law for 30 years.

Eva McFadden has joined Kayhan International as an account executive to grow the firm’s presence in the higher education market.

With more than 20 years of experience in design and field sales, she received a B.F.A. in interior design and interior architecture from NIU.



T.J. Hicks

T.J. Hicks, development director, Wheaton Park District

Wheaton Park District has hired T.J. Hicks as its development director to oversee the district’s nonprofit foundations.

He served in similar roles at Northern Illinois University and DuPage Children’s Museum. He brings many years of professional fundraising experience, event management and board development to the district, along with a passion for seeing not-for-profit organizations positively impact their community.

Hicks holds a master’s degree in communication from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Colorado State University.

Katherine O’Dell, law partner

The Law Offices of Amari & Locallo of Chicago and Bloomingdale, Ill., has hired Katherine A. O’Dell as a partner.

O’Dell received a bachelor’s degree in communications-media studies in 1993 from NIU and a Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School in 2000.  A former assistant state’s attorney in Cook County for three years, O’Dell has served as the senior associate of Amari & Locallo since 2000.

Tim Collins, chief technology officer

RF IDeas Inc., a manufacturer of in-building identification and access control readers, has appointed Tim Collins as chief technology officer.

He brings more than 20 years of experience in the industry, including working for Motorola Solutions, and he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from NIU and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

With 35 patents filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Collins has also authored five professional publication pieces within the engineering community.

Steve Skerl

Steve Skerl, VP at CareSource

CareSource, a nonprofit Ohio-based health plan, has hired Steve Skerl as vice president of treasury.

Skerl will oversee all of CareSource’s treasury functions, including tax, insurance and financial risk management, banking relationships, cash management and organizational investment strategies.

An accomplished executive with senior-level leadership experience, Skerl has held a variety of financial roles across several industries and has led numerous growth initiatives, including acquisition, integration, investment and capital markets activities. Most recently, he served as vice president of finance and global treasurer at General Cable Corp., a Fortune 500 company.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Marquette University and an MBA in finance from Northern Illinois University.

He serves as president of the board of directors for United Rehabilitation Services of Greater Dayton, a nonprofit agency enhancing the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities or other special needs.

Tim Carlson

Tim Carlson, principal of the year

Tim Carlson has been awarded the Kishwaukee Region Illinois High School Principal of the Year Award by the Illinois Principals Association for his leadership, commitment and contributions.

He is a principal of Sycamore High School, a husband, a father of three daughters and a member of the IHSA legislative commission and the Rotary Club.

He graduated from NIU with a master’s degree in educational administration and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in physical education.

Doug Gaffney

Doug Gaffney is now a partner with IBM Global Services in Chicago.

Gaffney, who specializes in digital e-commerce, was previously managing director of Hybris e-commerce at SAP.

He graduated from NIU with a bachelor degree in marketing in 1983 and finished his MBA in 1984.

Seema Pajula, vice chairman and U.S. leader, Deloitte

Seema Pajula has been named vice chairman and U.S. leader of consumer and industrial products for Deloitte & Touche LLP.

She becomes the first woman to lead Deloitte’s consumer and industrial products group and the second woman to be tapped to head a Deloitte industry group in the U.S. in the last year.

Based in Chicago, Pajula joined Deloitte in 2002 as a partner and has led service delivery for some of its largest and most complex global clients.

Pajula graduated from NIU, where she received her bachelor’s degree in accounting. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. In 2015, she was elected to the board of Leadership Greater Chicago, which brings 30 business, civic and government leaders together to help solve Chicago’s most challenging issues. She also serves on the board of Chicago Scholars and is a member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago.

Fred Boehler

Fred Boehler, president and chief executive officer at Americold

Americold, a global leader in temperature-controlled supply chain solutions, has appointed Fred Boehler as president and chief executive officer.

Boehler, formerly the company’s president and chief operating officer, has been promoted for improving the business during his first three years at Americold and for ensuring the continuity of its strategies to grow the business and develop innovative solutions.

His prior experience includes serving as senior vice president of supply chain with SuperValue, a leading grocery retailer and wholesaler.

He graduated from Wright State University with a bachelor’s degree in management science and operations and went on to receive his master’s degree in international business from NIU.

Augustino Fontanetta, New Trier’s athletic director

Augustino Fontanetta, a veteran suburban high school athletic director who began his career at New Trier High School, has been hired as the athletic director for New Trier Township High School District 203.

Fontanetta previously was the athletic director at William Fremd High School in Palatine for five years before becoming the director of athletics and activities for Township High School District 211. From 1994 to 2008, he worked at New Trier as a teacher, coach and adviser.

He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

Dale Falk

Dale Falk, finance administrator, School District 30

Dale Falk is the new assistant superintendent of finance and operations for Northbrook/Glenview School District 30.

He has served as assistant superintendent of finance and operations in Mount Prospect’s public school system for the last 11 years.

He graduated from NIU with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1988 and a master’s degree in school business management in 2003.

Ryan Dowd, executive director for Hesed House

Ryan Dowd has been named executive director of Hesed House, the second largest comprehensive homeless shelter and resource center in Illinois.

Dowd was working as executive director at Ayuda, serving immigrants in Washington D.C., Virginia and Maryland with legal, social and language services. At age 13, he was a volunteer at Hesed House and continued as a staffer during college and law school. He left in 2013 to found the Center for Faith and Human Rights in Washington, D.C.

In 2003, he received his law degree and master’s degree in human services administration from Northern Illinois University and earned his undergraduate degree from North Central College.

Tracy Bogie

Coldwell Banker Caine has hired Tracy Bogie as a broker associate in its Greenville, S.C., office.

Previously serving as vice president of career development, Bogie was responsible for recruiting initiatives and overall training and development for Coldwell Banker Caine. Prior to that, she had experience in human resources and employee training with Toyota and other international automotive suppliers and worked in real estate for nine years.

She received her bachelor’s degree in business management from Northern Illinois University.

John Gorzak

John Gorzak of Naperville has been named vice president of commercial banking for Old Second National Bank.

He will be responsible for new business development, cross-selling bank products and servicing new and existing commercial relationships.

With more than 25 years of experience in banking, he has served in commercial and retail management positions at First Midwest Bank, Fifth Third Bank, National City Bank, Citibank and Old Kent Bank.

Gorzak earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Northern Illinois University.

Joseph Fahrenbach, project manager, J.C. Anderson

J.C. Anderson Inc. has hired Joseph Fahrenbach as project manager.

He will manage ongoing construction projects, including preconstruction, estimating, scheduling and construction. Prior to J.C. Anderson, Fahrenbach was employed as project manager with Skender Construction in Chicago.

With more than 15 years of industry experience, he is a LEED accredited professional and is well-versed in a variety of project management duties.

He received a master’s degree in real estate investment and finance from DePaul University and a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

Mark Ridolfi, assistant editor, North Scott Press

Mark Ridolfi, a veteran with 30 years of news writing and editing experience in the Quad Cities, has joined the North Scott Press.

He will be responsible for general news, including coverage of city and county governments, schools and features.

Ridolfi, a native of Indianapolis, received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in journalism from Indiana University.

Suzan Joyce, COO of Global Parts Network

Suzan Joyce has been named chief operating officer for Global Parts Network, a subsidiary of VIPAR Heavy Duty.

Joyce will continue in her role as chief financial officer for VIPAR Heavy Duty. She joined VIPAR in 2004 and was named CFO in 2008.

With more than 20 years of professional accounting experience, Joyce has worked in both public accounting and private industry. She has extensive experience in the automotive and trucking industries, as well as in manufacturing and distribution.

She is a certified public accountant with an undergraduate degree in accounting from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Northern Illinois University.

Illinois Bank & Trust of Rockford has promoted Jeff Hultman to president and CEO.

Hultman most recently served as market president of Illinois Bank & Trust and joined the bank in 2011 as executive vice president of commercial, treasury management and private banking. Previously, he was Rockford area president of commercial banking at JPMorgan Chase Bank, where he served in various commercial banking capacities for 14 years.

Hultman is a graduate of Bethel University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business (finance). He received an MBA degree from Northern Illinois University.

Aldona N. Gorman has joined Baker & McKenzie’s North American compensation and employment law practice as counsel in Chicago, bringing more than 16 years of experience in advising companies on global workforce compensation.

Gorman advises multinational companies on global implementation, administration and ongoing legal, regulatory and tax compliance of their equity-based and incentive compensation plans. She also advises companies on international mobility matters, particularly with respect to the design, taxation and administration of equity compensation payable to globally mobile employees.

Jonathon Brust, territory sales manager, ALMAG Aluminum

ALMAG Aluminum has added Jonathon Brust as Midwest territory sales manager as part of its sales team expansion plans.

Brust joins ALMAG as the first U.S.-based territory sales manager and comes with seven years of experience in sales and engineering. Based in the Chicago area, he will focus on ALMAG’s existing customer base and be responsible for the growth strategy and execution of key accounts in the Midwest.

He received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Northern Illinois University.

Dunker inducted into Marengo Hall of Fame

Marengo High School has inducted Matt Dunker (B.S. mathematics education, ’03) into the Marengo Hall of Fame.

Dunker was one of Marengo’s best three-sport athletes as a football and basketball player and a field events standout in track and field. He played college football as a tight end at Northern Illinois University and now coaches and teaches at Crystal Lake South High School. He caught passes for more than 2,000 yards in his high school career and placed fifth in the Class A triple jump at the 1998 IHSA Boys Track and Field State Meet.

First Business Capital Corp. of Madison, Wis., has hired Trent Kobs as a collateral analyst.

Kobs graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He is an active board member with the Janesville Youth Baseball and Softball Association, where he worked for three years.

Nate Hardesty, regional VP with Hyatt

Hyatt has appointed Nate Hardesty as a regional vice president of sales.

Hardesty, based in Washington, D.C., will be responsible for driving business to Hyatt’s 627 hotels in 52 countries and for sales production across the eastern region of the U.S. He will manage more than 60 directors of strategic accounts and will oversee territory and third-party teams in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.

With more than 15 years of experience as a director of sales and marketing at Hyatt hotels and resorts, Hardesty brings an extensive hospitality career and background to his new role. Most recently, he was director of sales and marketing at Hyatt Regency Orlando.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in organizational/corporate communication in 2001 from Northern Illinois University.

Erin Slater

Erin Slater, superintendent in Fort Madison, Iowa

The Fort Madison School Board of Education has selected Erin Slater as the next superintendent of the Fort Madison Community School District.

Slater has been an educator for more than 25 years. She started as a classroom teacher in Aurora, Ill., and has served as an assistant principal, principal, director of elementary education and director of K-12 curriculum and instruction and is the current assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for DuPage County School District 45 in Villa Park, Ill.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and holds a master’s degree in educational administration and an educational specialist degree with a superintendent’s endorsement from Northern Illinois University. Slater is expected to receive her doctorate from NIU later this year.

Julia Jasken, provost and dean, McDaniel College

McDaniel College in Westminster, Md., has appointed Julia Jasken as its provost.

She most recently served as acting provost and dean of the faculty. As McDaniel College’s new chief academic officer, Jasken oversees the college’s academic program, including curriculum, staffing, instruction, student support services and academic resources. As dean of the faculty, she represents the faculty to the administration and works with key constituents on the development of academic policy.

She began at the college in 2003 and has long been a proponent of campus-community partnerships. As a faculty member in the English department, she has specialized in new media pedagogy and has taught professional writing courses.

In 2012, she received the Maryland-D.C. Campus Compact Statewide Faculty Award for Outstanding Service-Learning.

A native of Moorhead, Minn., Jasken earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., and a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. She received her Ph.D. from Michigan Technological University.

Robin Latman has been named director of special education for Flossmoor School District 161.

After graduating from Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Latman earned an education degree from Northern Illinois University and began a successful career as a teacher and school administrator.

Latman is currently director of special education in Cicero School District 99.

Matthew Weiskopf, senior network administrator, ORBA

Ostrow Reisin Berk & Abrams Ltd. (ORBA), one of Chicago’s largest public accounting firms, has hired Matthew L. Weiskopf as its senior network administrator.

Weiskopf has more than 15 years of experience working with professional service companies to design and implement IT services.

He studied electrical engineering at Northern Illinois University and has an associate degree in applied science for information technology from William Rainey Harper College.

Frank Mirandola, assistant principal at Prospect High School

Frank Mirandola, a Prospect High School history teacher and staff sponsor of The Underground, Prospect’s student spirit group, will take on his new role as assistant principal of the high school on July 1.

Mirandola has spent his entire career at Prospect, teaching U.S. history, human geography and American studies since 2002.

As The Underground sponsor, the group raised $22,350 for the Gift-a-Mammogram program at Northwest Community Hospital.

He has also served as Prospect’s head boys’ track and field coach, varsity football defensive/special teams coordinator and head freshman baseball coach.

He has a bachelor’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and master’s degrees in educational administration and curriculum and instruction from Northern Illinois University.

Joseph DeSplinter, RE/MAX board of directors

Joseph DeSplinter has accepted a position on the RE/MAX Holdings Inc. board of directors.

In 2014, he retired from Ernst & Young as a professional practice director in New York. He also served the firm as a managing partner in both Denver and Phoenix. DeSplinter has nearly 40 years of management and accounting experience, with an emphasis on public company management.

He holds a certified public accountant license in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois and New York. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting from Northern Illinois University and completed executive programs at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

William Avila

William Avila, curator, Museums at Lisle Station Park

William “Buddy” Avila is the new curator of The Museums at Lisle Station Park.

Avila hopes to involve many Lisle residents with his first major exhibit in May on “America’s Pastimes,” which will take a broad look at the history of sports in Lisle.

He has a master’s degree in history from Northern Illinois University and certificates of graduate studies in both museum studies and women studies.
