Holman joins ZAIS board of directors

ZAIS Financial Corp., based in Red Bank, N.J., has announced that David L. Holman has joined the company’s board of directors.

Holman (B.S. in accountancy ’69) will serve as an independent member of the board of directors and the chair of the board’s audit committee.

He was formerly a 27-year partner with the public accounting firm Ernst & Young during a career spanning more than 40 years with the firm. His most recent position with Ernst & Young was in the national office in New York City, where he served for eight years as the Americas director of accounting standards.

Ongtengco tapped as Fenton principal

An assistant principal in Mundelein District 120, James Ongtengco, has been named principal of Fenton High School in Bensenville and will assume his duties July 1.

Ongtengco has worked in Mundelein since 2008. He began his career as a science teacher and served as assistant principal at Belvidere School District 100.

He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

He was a Golden Apple nominee in 1997 and is the recipient of the Mundelein Diversity Award and the Mundelein Star Award.

Samberg named technology consultant

Des Plaines Office Equipment, a provider of print and network services, has hired Chris Samberg of Carpentersville, Ill., as a technology consultant.

In this role, he will work to generate new business while managing current accounts.

Prior to joining DPOE, Samberg was a lead generator with ACCO Brands.

The 23-year-old earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from NIU and holds a certificate of achievement in human relations from Dale Carnegie Training.

Biggs Museum names Guerin as executive director

The Biggs Museum of American Art has named Charles A. Guerin as the new executive director.

In May, Guerin, a Chicago native, will join the Biggs Museum, located in Dover, Del. He currently works as executive director at The Hyde Collection in Glen Falls, N.Y.

He has 25 years of experience as chief executive officer of three nationally prominent art museums. Guerin’s other museum experience includes serving as the executive director at the University of Arizona Museum of Art, the commissioner of Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources and the executive director of University of Wyoming Art Museum.

He holds a master’s degree in printmaking and art history, a master’s degree in painting and a bachelor’s degree in printmaking, all from Northern Illinois University.

Abbeduto becomes director of School District 300

Lindsay Abbeduto has been approved to take over as director of professional development and programming for the Algonquin-based School District 300.

Abbeduto currently serves in numerous roles at North Boone Community Unit School District 200, including working as curriculum director and professional development coordinator. She formerly worked as a teacher at Crystal Lake District 47 for 12 years.

She earned a physical education degree from NIU and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University.

Walters appointed city manager

The city of Burlington, Wis., has named Carina Walters as city administrator.

Walters, assistant city manager in Lake Forest, Ill., for the last five years, was selected from a group of 55 applicants following a nationwide search.

She will oversee the day-to-day operations of the city, its workforce and budget, including a new community pool and future city hall and library.

Walters earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Benedictine University and a master’s degree in public administration in 2003 from Northern Illinois University.

DeKalb County honors Beynon

Lisa Beynon, an art teacher at Genoa-Kingston High School, has received the DeKalb County Excellence in Education Award.

The program recognizes DeKalb County school employees for playing an active role in their schools and communities and for inspiring a love of learning. Award winners receive a $1,000, a clock and a medallion.

Beynon (B.A. art education ’00) teaches painting, drawing, 3-D studio arts and digital photography. She has developed a guest artist program to introduce community artists to students, takes students to the Museum of Contemporary Art and runs mini-exhibitions in the school to showcase student work. She also coaches the high school dance team and runs the Mugs and Hugs Ceramic Fundraiser for Hope Haven, the county’s homeless shelter.

Stewart joins NORCAL Mutual

NORCAL Mutual Insurance Co., the ninth largest medical professional liability insurance provider in the nation, has appointed Andre Stewart to the newly created position of senior vice president of underwriting for custom accounts.

Stewart will be responsible for new business growth with a focus on multistate and national accounts, program business, unique risks and integrated delivery systems.

He has more than 25 years of experience in the medical professional liability industry. He joins NORCAL from The Doctors Co., where he served as chief underwriting officer and president of TDC Specialty. Prior to that, he served as a vice president for CNA Insurance as part of its medical professional liability practice.

Stewart holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Northern Illinois University and received his MBA with an emphasis in finance from Keller Graduate School.

Hoffman to work as nurse practitioner in Princeton

Jennifer Hoffman, a family nurse practitioner, will join the Perry Memorial Family Health Clinic in Princeton, Ill.

Hoffman has 13 years of nursing experience and is currently the emergency department coordinator at Perry Memorial Hospital. She received an associate degree in nursing from Illinois Valley Community College, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from NIU and a master’s degree in advanced nursing practice from Maryville University.

Finan to head Glenbrook North High School

Glenbrook School District 225 has named John Finan principal of Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook.

Since 2008, Finan has been associate principal of administrative services at Glenbrook North and has supervised two curriculum departments. For nine years, he was an assistant professor and then became an associate dean of liberal arts at Harper College in Palatine. He also taught Spanish at the University of Nevada and in Hinsdale District 86.

He graduated in1991from NIU with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and has master’s degrees from American University (Spanish studies) and Concordia University (school leadership). He recently received his doctorate from National Louis University.

Clancy to serve as VP in investor relations

Communications Sales & Leasing Inc. has named Rob Clancy assistant treasurer and vice president of investor relations.

CS&L, based in Little Rock, Ark., is a real estate investment trust company that is being spun off from Windstream, a data, voice and network Fortune 500 company.

Clancy previously served as senior vice president of finance at Cbeyond. The 50-year-old has worked at Cbeyond to oversee treasury, investor relations and financial planning. Before joining Cbeyond, he was senior vice president and treasurer for Windstream, where he had responsibility for the company’s treasury and capital market functions, investor relations, corporate communications and risk management groups. He came to Windstream with the spin off from Alltel, where he served as vice president of investor relations and held other management positions.

Clancy earned an accountancy degree in 1987 from NIU and is a certified public accountant.
