Brian R. Mueller

Mueller on board at Anthera Pharmaceuticals

Anthera Pharmaceuticals Inc., a biopharmaceutical company that develops and commercializes products to treat autoimmune diseases, has appointed Brian R. Mueller to serve on its board of directors and as chairman of the board’s audit committee.

Mueller is group vice president, corporate controller and chief accounting officer of BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc., a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company.

“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Mueller to our board of directors. Brian’s global experience in financial operations and extensive experience with strategic transactions will most certainly add value to Anthera as we continue to advance our late-stage clinical trials,” said Chris Henney, chairman of Anthera.

Mueller, who earned his bachelor’s degree in accountancy from NIU, has been with BioMarin since 2002 and worked seven years in public accounting for Arthur Andersen and KPMG.

“We look forward to leveraging Brian’s accomplishments at BioMarin and his leadership in guiding us through our next stage of growth,” Henney added.



Christina Sosin

Sosin and Burke hired as assistant principals in Schaumburg

School District 54 in Schaumburg has appointed Christina Sosin and Cory Burke as assistant principals.

Sosin will be the assistant principal of Fairview Elementary School in Hoffman Estates and Stevenson Elementary School in Elk Grove Village. She is a literacy instructional coach in District 54, but has been working as an interim assistant principal at Einstein Elementary School since February. She has also taught language arts at Eisenhower Junior High School and fourth through eighth grade at Lincoln Prairie School.

“In the past 13 years that I’ve been an educator in District 54, I feel that I’ve been the one receiving an education,” Sosin said. “I’ve considered all the administrators that I’ve worked with to be mentors.”

She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education (specialization in reading) from Northern Illinois University. She also has a master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University.



Cory Burke

Cory Burke will become the assistant principal of Keller Junior High School in Schaumburg. She is currently a language arts teacher and the language arts department chair at Mead Junior High School.

“I’ve been in the district for nine years and I’ve been afforded many leadership opportunities,” Burke said. “One of District 54′s strongest attributes is the supportive atmosphere that has been created.”

She has a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Illinois University.

Jamie Crain

Crain, vice president of Resolute Consulting

Jamie Crain has joined Chicago-based public affairs firm Resolute Consulting as vice president and will manage media campaigns for the firm.

She received her master’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois at Springfield and her bachelor’s degree in political science from Northern Illinois University.

Marion Friebus-Flaman

Naperville District 203 hires Friebus-Flaman as language director

Naperville Community Unit School District 203 has hired Marion Friebus-Flaman as director of language acquisition services. She will oversee the dual language and English Language Learners programs.

Friebus-Flaman most recently worked as principal of Thomas Dooley Elementary School in Schaumburg, where she helped develop a Japanese-English immersion program. She also teaches graduate courses in multicultural education and assessment of language minority students at Northern Illinois University.

She has a bachelor’s degree in English from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, a master’s degree in the teaching of English as a second language from the University of Illinois, a master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University and a doctorate in education from Capella University.

Johnson-Laster publishes self-help book

Patricia Johnson-Laster of Tullahoma, Tenn., recently released a faith-based self-help workbook, “Free to Be Me: Guided Journaling for Personal and Spiritual Growth,” published by Deep River Books.

She landed the royalty-based contract by winning the grand prize in the company’s annual writing contest.

In addition to a doctorate in educational psychology from Northern Illinois University, Johnson-Laster holds a master’s degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master’s degree in religion from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
